In 2 yrs, Dial 112 reaches out to 20L people: ADG
Patna: Since its launch two years back, the ‘Dial 112’ emergency service in Bihar has reached out to approximately 20 lakh people, making it an important tool for the state residents to seek police help in the time of emergency.
With this achievement, Bihar has secured second position in the country in terms of daily call handling by the Dial 112 service, a testament to the service’s efficiency and effectiveness, said officials of the Bihar police headquarters (PHQ) here on Friday.

Additional director general (ADG) of Technical Services and Wireless, Nirmal Kumar Azad, said in the past two years Dial 112 has served over 20 lakh people. “Approximately 5,000 people receive services daily. This year, the goal is to serve over 15 lakh people. Next year’s target is to reach 18 to 20 lakh citizens in need,” he said.
“Under citizen-centric policing, we are now achieving the goal of delivering emergency services anywhere in the state within 20 minutes,” he said. Giving break-up of emergency services provided in the past two years, he said, “As many as 1,059,782 local disputes/assaults/violent clashes, etc were handled; domestic violence, crimes against women and children 180,817; traffic/accidents 81,268; fire incidents 71,994; and liquor cases 71,501,” Azad said.
The ADG further said that as a result of swift action at the state-level in 2023, there was a decrease of 15.39% robbery cases, 5.93% theft and 15.82% riots as compared to the previous year.
“Dial 112 is being developed as a single police and emergency helpline number for all citizens of Bihar. This will enable people to access maximum services through one number 112 under citizen-centric policing, such as ambulance, fire services, policing and traffic. The preparation for the new initiative will be completed by next month. The current strength of vehicles in the Bihar police is 1,833, including 1283 four-wheelers and 550 two-wheelers,” ADG said further.
