THANE: A 59 year old woman who was on her way to attend the funeral of a relative in Kolhapur was robbed of her ornaments and cash aboard a moving train by a fellow passenger, officials informed.
Officials informed the woman who stays in Sewri had boarded the ladies coach of a South-bound Puducherry express from Mumbai, Saturday night, to attend the funeral of a relative who had passed away in Kolhapur.
As per the complainant, she met an unidentified female co-passenger in the coach who struck a conversation with her mid-way and later offered her farsan and snacks which were allegedly laced with sedatives.
“The unsuspecting victim consumed the snacks and soon lost conscious when the accused allegedly decamped with her valuables. The victim who regained conscious the following morning was admitted to a local hospital in Miraj where she registered a complaint that was transferred to us for investigations,” informed senior inspector Pandhari Kande at the Kalyan railway police.
Kande said they have narrowed down some suspects who operated using similar modus operandi in the past.
