THANE: Five minor boys from Mumbra who lost their way back home after they went on an unescorted trek in the nearby mountain ranges late Friday were tracked and reunited with their parents after a seven hour long search and rescue operation that ended wee hours of Saturday.

The boys – aged between nine and eleven years- had apparently decided to go trekking to scale the 300 feet high mountains all by themselves around 4pm Friday.

However, they lost their tracks due to the cloudy weather and heavy rainfall in the area and got stuck on the mountains.
Meanwhile, their families managed to reach out to the police and rescue officials who embarked on a search operation late Friday night.
The teams managed to brave the heavy rain and low visibility, slippery terrain and pitch darkness but somehow managed to spot these children found huddled atop the mountains and brought them down to safety.
The search operation ended by 3am following which the children were handed over to their respective parents after completing the necessary police formalities, informed Yasin Tadvi, in-charge at the Thane regional disaster management cell.
