KTR questions Rahul Gandhi on defections in Telangana
HYDERABAD: Charing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi with adopting double standards on elected representatives’ defections, BRS working president KT Rama Rao said the Congress party was encouraging defections and poaching BRS MLAs against the spirit of democracy. He questioned Rahul Gandhi’s stand on the defections, who made grand promises in the Panch Nyay document to give more teeth to the anti-defection law and also spoke about immediate termination of membership of defectors.

Addressing the media in Delhi along with former minister T Harish Rao, KTR said Rahul Gandhi’s behaviour could win him an Oscar as he pretended to be a protector of the Indian Constitution earlier. He said he was holding the press conference in Delhi to expose the double standards of the Congress party and Rahul Gandhi.
“The same Congress leader made his party MLAs in Goa to take an oath against the defections after winning on Congress ticket. The same leader made hue and cry when the Congress MLAs were allegedly bought by BJP in the states like Karnataka, Haryana and Maharashtra. Now the Congress leaders are circling around BRS MLAs houses in Telangana,” the BRS working president said.
“The people of the country take note of Rahul Gandhi's behavior, holding a constitutional book in one hand while killing the constitution on the other. Telangana CM Revanth Reddy got an approval from the AICC to encourage defections in Telangana and poach BRS MLAs,” he said.
KTR reminded that Revanth Reddy once said that defectors should be stoned to death and called them mad dogs. The Telangana CM should tell now who should be stoned and who the mad dog is, asking for Rahul Gandhi’s response. He recalled the Supreme Court's significant verdict on a defection case involving a Congress MLA in Manipur and demanded an explanation for the BRS MLA purchases in Telangana while Congress claims to fight against BJP’s defections nationwide. He cited an allegation by Siddaramaiah in Karnataka that each Congress MLA was offered 50 crores by the BJP and questioned the cost of MLA purchases in Telangana.
KTR said he had been consulting legal and constitutional experts in Delhi for four days seeking justice in party defection issues. He said BRS MLA Danam Nagender, contested as Secunderabad MP on a Congress B-form after defecting to the party. He called for immediate action against such blatant defections. He mentioned filing a petition in the High Court and promised to approach the Supreme Court if justice was not served. He also stated plans to meet the President and lodge complaints, as well as raise the issue in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. He vowed to strengthen anti-defection laws in collaboration with parties affected by the Congress and BJP, advocating for an automatic cancellation of membership upon party switching, as stated in the Panch Nyay document.
