Rudrapur: State govt has approved the construction of nine new stadiums across
Uttarakhand to provide local
youth with better facilities for honing their sporting skills without needing to move to other states. Director of Youth Welfare and Provincial Guard Force issued a formal letter detailing the initiative for the districts of Haridwar, Dehradun, Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital.
Udham Singh Nagar district received the maximum share, with four stadiums set to be built in Jaspur, Nagla, Khatima, and Kichha.
Officials said that govt has prioritised locations with populations exceeding 50,000 for this project, which is to be completed in the financial year 2024-25. Besides, govt has identified Roorkee, Rishikesh, Ramnagar, Mangalore, and Doiwala towns for stadium construction.
District chief development officer Manish Kumar said, “The govt’s initiative includes both indoor and open stadiums to ensure comprehensive sports infrastructure development in the region.”
