In an effort reminiscent of the popular film Dhoom, the Uttarakhand Traffic Police are poised to introduce a fleet of powerful motorcycles aimed at tackling the increasing problem of stunt riding on public roads. The traffic directorate of the state has proposed to equip the traffic department with eight high-performance motorcycles from Harley Davidson or BMW.
This plan is currently waiting for final approval.
The proposal, valued at Rs 1.6 crore, is aimed at providing the traffic personnel with vehicles that can help them chase stunt riders. It will come as an upgrade to daily-commuter patrol bikes currently in use. Reckless stunt riding not only endangers the lives of the riders but also poses a significant risk to other road users.
High-performance motorcycles from brands like Harley Davidson and BMW will help the police keep up with the high-speed bikes, enabling them to better enforce traffic laws and improve road safety.

Uttarakhand road safety: Other measures
Beyond this proposal, the traffic department has outlined several other measures aimed at improving road safety across the state. This includes the installation of 147 convex mirrors at hazardous road turns, a project estimated at Rs 9.5 lakh. Furthermore, the government has approved a Rs 14.7 lakh initiative to equip police officers with body-worn cameras, enhancing accountability and transparency in
traffic management.
In addition, the department plans to invest in 1,243 shoulder lights and purchase drones worth Rs 70 lakh to improve traffic monitoring and management. The introduction of radar speed signs equipped with cameras at ten key locations in Uttarakhand is also on the agenda, aimed at curbing speeding and improving overall road safety.
