🤸♀️ Welcome to our Sustainability Week! A series of posts about Volkswagen Group initiatives and achievements in this area. Did you know? Volkswagen Group Africa just received an international award for a project about "plastic recycling". Congratulations! 😮 Since the start of the initiative in 2023, the Kariega plant, located in South East Africa, directed more than 130 tons of plastic waste to an upcycling project of the local community. “As we strive to achieve a "zero impact factory" by 2030, it is essential that we demonstrate a similar commitment to the community, and this particular project allows us to have a direct impact on the lives of those in need in our community,” says Ulrich Schwabe, VWGA Production Director. ♻ During the recycling process, discarded plastic parts are collected, sorted, and transported to a local non-profit organization. The NGO generates an income and employment from converting the parts to crates and selling them. 🙌 This is just one example, how we reduce waste in our factories, all around the world. Stay tuned for updates on other initiatives!

❤ This week, it’s two years ago, that our colleagues from PowerCo started their journey. Congratulations! They are really busy, building a global cell production network: there will be at least three battery factories, all over the globe: ✅ Salzgitter, Germany ✅ Valencia, Spain ✅ St. Thomas, Ontario / Canada The company’s major strength will be vertical integration from raw materials and the cell through to recycling. Check out some of the major milestones from the last 24 months: ● New production process: dry coating of battery cells saves about 30 percent energy, 15 percent of floor space required, and millions of Euros in production costs ● New battery cell: The unified cell format will help increasing performance and cutting costs at the same time ● Joint-Venture IONWAY builds a local battery supply chain in Europe Would you be interested in a tour of a battery factory?

❔ How does the "brand group core" want to achieve "a common identity" and why is this important? Škoda Auto, SEAT S.A., CUPRA, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, and Volkswagen - they form the brand group core. With this concentration, we aim to use synergies between our volume brands and thus achieve joint growth. 🚗 In order to make the brand group even more successful, six fields of action have been defined, the "core drivers". The first "information meeting" of the brand group in 2024 has just happened for about 6,000 managers from these five organizations. The core driver+, culture & governance, is the connecting element of all these tasks. Together with Arne Meiswinkel, Board Member for HR at Volkswagen, Maren Graef, Board Member of Management for People & Culture at Škoda, is responsible for the Core Driver+. 💬 She explains, that "there are very tangible business reasons - such as our joint target of an eight percent return on sales by 2026 - for our collaboration."👉

❓ Where is the connection between the salt crust in Chile and #emobility? Volkswagen Group is an active member of the “Responsible Lithium Partnership”, official: Mesa Multiactor Salar de Atacama. Therefore, our colleague Anna-Maria Nunenmann travelled to Atacama-desert, in Chile, together with other representatives of the partnership. The group wanted to get first-hand impressions of the situation in the region. Three goals of the #partnership: ✅ Establish local networks, trust & dialogue ✅ Create solutions to save water & extract #lithium ✅ Promote benefits for nature, the people, and the local economic situation   We will continue to support this process in Northern #Chile for even more exchange, openness, and transparency. This way we will facilitate the sustainable growth of the region, in terms of protecting the natural reserves, as well as offering a long-term economic perspective for the local people.

✨ Check it out: latest news from our colleagues at MOIA! MOIA offers its services to reduce individual car traffic and use roads more efficiently. In Hamburg, 🚌 10.3 million passengers have already used the MOIA service since 2019. Strengthening local public transport is another achievement. Here's what MOIA's CEO, Sascha Meyer, says about barrier-free mobility: “The successful expansion of our service and the integration of wheelchair-accessible vehicles show that innovative #mobility solutions such as ridepooling have a positive impact on people's quality of life.” 🦽 So far, wheelchair users have used MOIA for 42,000 rides. At the same time, severely disabled people and their companions have been able to use MOIA "free-of-charge" for more than 400,000 rides. Plus: MOIA expanded its area of operations to serve more Hamburg districts. Approximately 660,000 people have used the service to travel to or from these neighborhoods over the last 1.5 years. 😏 Have you used a MOIA, yet?
