    School of Data, a project coordinated by the Open Knowledge Foundation, works to empower civil society organizations, journalists and citizens with the skills they need to use data effectively in their efforts to create more equitable and effective societies. There is huge potential to use data and open data to improve the lives of citizens around the world, especially in increasing the transparency and accountability of government. However, many of the groups who are closest to the problems – NGOs, journalists, and citizens – currently lack the skills to use data effectively — and even an awareness of the potential of data for their work. School of Data’s mission is to teach people how to gain powerful insights and create compelling stories using data.

  • Social Innovation Front - São Paulo

    The Social Innovation Front is an initiative of the Social Development Office of the State of São Paulo to facilitate and articulate projects and ideas from the private sector, the non-governmental sector and the academia to foster social development in São Paulo. Through meetings and workshops, we engage members of the front to work together tackling social problems. Stakeholders that before had no relation, find in the Front a place to connect and work together.

    Leveraging MIT's Introduction to Computer Science and Programming open course, we formed a local learning group in São Paulo. Through the study group, we aimed to keep people focused, connected and disciplined in their studies. In total, 95 people subscribed to the group and about 20 showed up during the meetings.
