Pretty neo-gothic new rathaus and reconstructed old rathaus preside over this photogenic plaza. Yes, it gets crowded when the glockenspiel goes off, but you should watch it once. When we were there they had some kind of vegan festival going on.

Some great restaurants, easy walk to Hofbrau House, Viktuelen Markt, shopping, and mass transit. Plenty of buskers playing all sorts of music and of course the famous glockenspiel

Its a landmark that everybody who come MUNICH must go and visit....at here there are many shops for shopping and many restaurants surround....can also continue walking to the Residenz musuem or palace.

Marienplatz is a must see when in Munich. The Alt Rathaus hosts a glockenspiel that attracts crowds at the top of the hour up through 17:00 (5 p.m.) and is worth seeing once. If you want to get good pictures of the square, go early in the day or between 20 and 40 last the hour when the crowds are smaller.
