As good as Neuschwanstein is my wife and I thought Linderhof to be superior. Much of Neu' is great but the walk/horse/bus ride to the castle and its many, many steps makes it a little tedious. Of course Ludwig 2 went waaaay over the top at both places and was deservedly accused of madness and Neu' was the inspiration for Disneyland's Fantasyland BUT ..... Linderhof concentrates every excess of every castle/palace of Europe in one small location. If you must see one, make it Linderhof!

We booked this day trip from Munich. We took a bus from Munich. Beautiful country side. The tickets were purchased prior to is getting there. Didn’t have to wait in line. We took the short route to the castle. It was about 25 minutes up a steep hill, or you could do a horse ride, or walk the longer path with isn’t as steep. The view at the top is a amazing. The Mary’s bridge was a great attraction to see the castle from a different angle. I would highly recommend this tour.

My husband and myself did the Grand Circle Tour today, very informative and great audio. We got the tickets opposite the train station and after a 5 minute wait set off.The bus was very busy, but everything is dealt with efficiently and professionally, For the 2nd part of the tour we had to transfer to another bus, but no hassle, it was a very good few hours out.

Found this tour from a recommendation and was glad we did. Great comfortable coach, scenic road with part of the romantic road.
Our tour guide Siggy was great, funny with lots of interesting tidbits. He was very solicitous of everyone’s needs and made it special with a walk in the woods for a spectacular view of the castle. The kids especially loved this.

We are so glad we did this, only thing to know if you go before high season before the bus runs to get you up to the castle, the walk up is tough.
Loved it!

Overall, the castle and surrounding area was very beautiful. The tour was informative. I would suggest reserving tickets prior to your arrival ( it needs to be done at least 2 days in advance). Aside from being able to wait in the reservation line( which is significantly shorter), the tickets sell out. We reserved tickets for later in the day but arrived early and we were able to switch to an earlier tour without any issues. I was disappointed that the bridge was closed. Although the tour didn't include many rooms, it was still interesting to learn about the history. The walk up the hill was advertised as being 45 minutes but it only took us about 20 minutes. It was not an easy walk though.
