Lovely villa on Cayman Brac

Review of Le Soleil d'Or
Reviewed 3 weeks ago
This is a lovely villa with a beautiful surrounding. The staff is delightful and work hard to make you happy during your stay. The food was good, the beach area was nice and the farm tour is a must! This is a good place to get away in luxury on a more secluded island.

Review based on a stay in May 2024

Summary 4.9/5:
If you want luxury, amazing farm to table food, and a staff that focuses on your comfort and happiness, I highly recommend Le Soleil D'Or.

Room 4.5/5:
My wife and I stayed in the Cherry Lime room and it was almost perfect. The room and bathroom are huge, and you have an amazing wrap around balcony with a view of the ocean on one side and the the large limestone cliff on the other. They also provide a shared kitchen with bottled water in the refrigerator and a shared bathroom, satellite TV, game, and reading room, a very small gym, and washer / dryer. We didn't use any of the shared rooms except the kitchen for water and to chill wine in the refrigerator or to warm up a delicious left over from the restaurant in the toaster oven.
The only issue my wife or I had with what was otherwise a perfect stay was our bed. The bed was not at all up to the standards of the room or the rest of the property. It felt like an old style mattress with shared (not individual) coils connected to a hard top and bottom. The quality of the mattress wasn't even close to what I'd expect from Le Soleil when considering the cost and quality of the room and property.
The mattress also made loud, groaning spring noises every time you moved and especially when got on or off the bed because of the old style coils. I'm less than 190 pounds and my wife weighs less than me, so if you were bigger and heavier the mattress could be very noisy and even less comfortable for you. Because the rest of the room was so spectacular, I still give it a 4.5, but that mattress should be replaced!

Property 5/5
Beautiful property that also includes a nearby beach house and a farm on a limestone cliff above property.

Food 5/5
Spectacular, fresh farm to table food served in a cosey, charming restaurant by staff whose only goal is to please and chefs that come out to talk to you to get your feedback and ensure you enjoyed your food and drinks.

Staff 5/5
Amazing people work here. They are warm, friendly, helpful, and attentive to your every need.

Overall a great experience. My wife and I will be back.

A spectacular visit to a beautiful and unique property!

I live in Grand (Cayman). My adult daughter and her husband were visiting me for a week, from their home in Colorado. As a treat, we took a 3 day/2 night trip to the Brac, with a side day trip to Little Cayman for the snorkeling out to the Wall.

I searched for Airbnb accommodation on the Brac and discovered the limited options were only $50 a night less than the Soleil D'Or. So, we booked the beautiful 3-bed and bath 'Farmhouse' property and were beyond thrilled with every aspect of our stay.

The immensely helpful manager Amar, previously manager at the Ritz-Carlton on SMB, made the whole experience perfect. From the initial inquiry through to after our stay, he could not have been more proactive, helpful, interesting, and responsive. We taught ourselves the remarkable history of this unique property, made sure we had no problems with transport to and from the airport and recommended our stunningly beautiful sunrise hike on top and around the Bluff.

The Farmhouse sits, entirely privately, within an incredible walled farm garden that sits on the edge of the Bluff overlooking the spectacular ocean below. Steps lead down to the well-equipped hotel and restaurant below.

Jonathan, one of the knowledgeable farm workers, gave us a remarkable tour of the farm. We learned so much and tasted a whole table full of different local and Caribbean fruits. You have to try the Miracle Berries! ;-)

The very comfortable Farmhouse has beautiful bedrooms, a full balcony, and a well-furnished lounge area that leads into the large well-equipped kitchen, which we used for dinner one night, with the other spent at the restaurant enjoying their fun build-your-own pizza night with its excellent-priced 3-course menu, served by super-friendly and attentive staff. really tasty breakfasts are included in the room rate.

They also have their own beach Club just a little way down the road, which we enjoyed for a whole afternoon. We also followed Amar's advice and went snorkeling on the Tibbets wreck, on the coast to the north of the airport.

I will undoubtedly return. Everything about the place felt special. The Farmhouse is ideal for a small group, or a family, looking for a break with a real difference, at a fraction of the price of the Severn Mile Beach options on Grand Cayman.

Enjoy!!

note: car hire was super-easy and very reasonable - literally from just outside the airport entrance.

My husband and I were searching for a 20th anniversary getaway, and we found it in Le Soleil D’or. We booked the Beach Club room not expecting that we were going to be the only ones there! The main part of the resort is about 2 miles up the road - that’s where the farm is and also the main restaurant where you also have breakfast in the morning. The beach club is accessible to the public between Friday and Sunday. That’s when the beach bar is open for lunch and dinner. That being said, aside from the fact it was Mother’s Day on Sunday, I would say it was not crazy busy at all. The beach was still practically empty. Between Monday and Thursday - it was wonderful to have the place all to ourselves. To unwind from city life, it was the perfect place for us to completely relax and rest.

We can’t say enough positive words about the staff. Amar was extremely helpful and quick to respond to any questions or issues we ran into. The wait staff at the restaurant and bar - Sylvia, Bob, Amanda - were amazingly attentive, and we had fun getting to know them all. Rene, the chef, is fantastic! We loved the ceviche, the grilled shrimp, the Fava bean salad, and the salads were so fresh. The food is farm to table. It was a pleasure chatting with him as well. Oh and we were obsessed with the Brac Cloud dessert!

The farm tour - perhaps my favorite thing about the trip to Cayman Brac. Your stay includes a farm tour which takes about an hour. Jonathan was the farmer that did our tour, and we learned so much. The fruit taste test at the end was an adventurous treat!

If you want to relax completely and you don’t need nightlife or evening activities- this is the place for you. It’s the perfect place for serenity, meditation, and relaxation.

Room tip: Very hot! Always have a hat, water and sunscreen. Also the beaches are not very sandy except the beach club. Definitely bring water shoes

My wife and I had the best anniversary trip to Le Soleil d'Or. We stumbled upon Cayman Brac by searching for luxury boutique hotels in the Caribbean and all expectations were met and exceeded!!

**Rooms**
Over a total 8 day stay, we stayed in both Star Apple and Cherry Lime rooms, and only moved because we really wanted the wrap-around balcony with Cherry Lime. Both rooms were beautiful, clean, and spacious and would even work for a family with small children.

**Manor House & Grounds**
We loved that everything was so convenient around the Manor House. It's was great to have a full kitchen for storing any food and snacks and really liked that water bottles were available daily. The restaurant was perfect and we enjoyed dining there for most of our meals during the trip. Made to order breakfast was included daily and was a great way to start the day. The beach was about a 5 minute drive away but very, very private. On some days, it felt like we had the beach all to ourselves and this was a huge positive.

**Staff**
All of the staff went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable and memorable as possible but a few individuals stood out to us. Amar (hotel manager) was nothing short of amazing!!! He answered questions for us every day and made sure that we were taking care of. We knew we were in the best of hands!! Rene managed the dining experience and he and Amar ensured that my wife (celiac disease) would have no issues to enjoy the food as much as possible. We loved the menu and his passion for the dining experience. Finally, Amanda was an amazing server and we loved her attentiveness, attention to detail, and memory (she always remember what we liked to order)!

**Overall**
10 of 10. Le Soleil d'Or is a no brainer if staying on Cayman Brac and should be on your radar if you looking into ideas for where to stay in the Caribbean. We would only stay at Le Soleil d'Or on any return trips to The Brac.

We like quiet - it was quiet, we like quality - it was very good quality, we like good service - it was perfect service!
The island is for nature-lovers. Don’t forget to pack your hiking boots, diving or snorkeling gear, but it is also available for rent on the island. Enjoy.
