An idyllic place for couples, friends and families on Little Cayman. A friendly, serene, relaxed place to chill. We have lots of fun things to do directly from the white, sandy beach at Sunset Cove. We have kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddle boards and luxury beach floats available for rental, so you have everything you need right at the resort. You can kayak over to Owen Island and snorkel or hang out on the beach. South Hole Sound is a lovely, reef-protected, sandy, shallow area with ideal conditions to enjoy most any watersports. We also have bicycles available for 1/2 day or full day rental. There's something for everyone! Or on a lazy day, you can indulge in a massage or lounge in one of the hammocks at the resort. For your dining pleasure, we also have The Beach Bum Cafe which is open 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

We just went for a weekend and had a great time. For the value this hotel is very good. If you're expecting the ritz, you're probably in the wrong place. But much like the rest of little cayman, this no frills hotel gives a very good location (good kayaking to Owen island) and the people running it are very friendly. Their new chef Ken made us everything from breakfast burritos to pulled pork to lobster and it was all very good. David was always helpful and helped us with any requests we had. We definitely can't wait to get back there.

We had a wonderful stay at Sunset Cove in the gem that is Little Cayman. Tarrah, the lady that runs the resort, was lovely and helpful, from picking us up from the airport, to dropping us off at our dive site, and recommending places to go and see. The rooms are basic but clean, and the beachfront location is absolutely stunning. We hired kayaks and kayaked across to Owen Island, and also hired bikes to explore the island (both reasonably priced and easy to arrange). The Beach Bum cafe serves wonderful food (the jerk night on Saturday evening is a must, attracting tourists and locals alike). There is no bar, but there's a bring your own alcohol policy, so a stop off at the liquor store en route from the airport is highly recommended.

All in all, if you are looking for a reasonably priced, relaxing break in a beautiful location, Sunset Cove is the place to go!

On landing early morning in little Cayman we were greeted by our pick up service from Sunset Cove on time ... We asked to be taken to the only shop to pick up some toiletries and a 2ltr bottle of water as we were both quite thirsty. I looked forward to getting some breakfast from the "Beach Bum' cafe. It took us approximately 5 minutes to reach the resort. On arrival I noticed nothing really going on in the cafe with no sign of life. We checked in and went straight to our room which thankfully had the air conditioning on and was so nice to go into. The room, although very basic and dated was exceptionally clean. We got out our beach towels and went straight to the most welcoming idilic beach set in breathtaking surrounding. We looked for loungers to place our towels on but could only find 4 chairs and a table under the gazebo. No problem as after breakfast we would ask if they could be taken out of the hut with the water sports equipment in. We walked to the cafe but all was locked up.... We waited around for a couple of hours but no one showed up. We then decided to take the bikes for a ride around and on return surely we could get something to eat. 1.5 hours later we returned and all was still locked up.... Our water had now run out. 3pm after phoning other resorts on the island we found one open with a bar open. We rode our bikes and found a great resort that made us non guests very welcome and they advised us we would be welcome to stay for the BBQ later on, of course this was an added extra on our bill but being hungry and thirsty had no other option.
We returned back to Sunset Cove later in the evening and found David sat in the cafe. He explained that being out of season all was shut and his cook was off island for a month. Perhaps it would have been good to advise us of this before we made this booking.
I would definitely go back to Sunset Cove again but only when the Cafe and sports hut is open as this was a great place with a lot of potential. And Lionel the iguana was most welcoming. Out of season I would definitely stay at the Little Cayman Beach Resort....

This is my second time at Sunset Cove, i was happy to visit again as my first visit was great however my second visit not so good (sorry i hate to give a bad review but after what happened i think it's necessary) - the hotel collected us from the airport which was great as it was complimentary, we were the only guests in the hotel as it is the low season the lady showed us to our room and then we hit the beach to relax.

After an hour or so we decided to head to point of sands, we grabbed the push bikes and cycled 30 or so minutes to point of sands, after spending some time here we headed back to the hotel, on the way back in the blistering heat we couldn't wait to get back to the hotel to get a nice cold drink and a bite to eat. On arrival at the hotel we were somewhat of a dehydrated wreak, i searched the hotel high and low for the lady in order to get a drink she was no where to be found, thank god we had half a bottle of water in the room!!

After an hour still no return, we sat on the balcony waiting for someone to show (bearing in mind the hotel is 20 minutes from the nearest shop) after over 2 hours i decided it would be best to cycle to the shop to get some drinks which i did, i didn't get any food as my mother assured me someone would return to feed us, they didn't.

6 bottles of water later and still no hotel staff we decide to change our flights back to Grand Cayman as we could not stay in the hotel with no food, water or staff. Unfortunately there wasn't a flight available until the following day at 9am so to much dismay we stayed. Later on that day i remembered i had a magazine with Little Cayman resorts detailed within it, i called them all there was one open which was 20 minutes from our hotel, we took our bikes and cycled to the other resort, we were so pleased we enjoyed a local BBQ and lots of water at the bar!!

Whist at the other resort I emailed David the manager to complain and i also said we needed to get to the airport at 9am and was worried as the hotel staff had gone, he advised me he was back at the resort as he had been off island. That evening on return to the resort we sat with David who was very kind and i am sure will make the hotel a massive hit, he apologised and said he was sorry he believed the lady had gone home as she thought we had gone out for the day.

Anyhow the next morning we woke up early to get some breakfast before our flight back to Grand Cayman and to our further surprise there was no breakfast and we was not offered so much as a glass of water before we left.

I understand it was the low season and time is slow however the hotel still cost us $200 for the 1 night which you would expect some sort of soft drink, also if due to the low season there is no services such as food there should be some sort of notification so alternative arrangements can be made. I did expect some sort of discount which is the only reason i am writing this review as nothing was offered in good will - bearing in mind for us to have food at the other resort cost us $150 on top of the $200 for the night in the hotel and then more changing the flights.

If you went and the hotel was in full swing i am sure it would be great this is just my own personal experience.

First off! I have to Scream and Shout!!! about Tim the Innkeeper! He was the Most Accommodating and Caring person I have ever met on a vacation he checked on us all at the proper time to make sure we were OK and if we needed anything, He was Fantastic! Fabulous! Can't say enough! Tim Was very Attentive but knew when not to join the party if you know what I mean!
I already did a review on the Beach Bum Cafe that is Awesome! Chef Ken was Above and Beyond making our meals anyway we liked he was like having a personal chef he cooked and prepared anything we wanted breakfast lunch and dinner, and if he has fresh tuna GET IT! one day he jerked some chicken for us "Just for us" how about that for service!

Now unfortunately the facilities were very very bad !
I have read the reviews and the responses from the owners!
Sounds like the owners thoughts are you get what you pay for and that's it! Poor excuse!
when we arrived we thought we were being "Punked" we were waiting for the cameras to show up but guess we were not that lucky!
first thing we tried to turn on the TV and I got Nothing! tracked the Inn Keeper down and was informed there is No TV but there is a TV in the room with a DVD player, Now there is Wi Fi but no cable TV? HUH?
absolutely no housekeeping seriously! 10 days same sheets! OMG!
no ice maker you have to get it from the chef which he has to buy himself out of his pocket!
lets talk about the bike rentals! I had to fix the bike I rode the chain kept coming off flat tires the seats are broke Really l!!!!! Go buy 6 new bikes!
we thought they (the owners) just leased sunset cove as a new business venture and were short on capital so we gave them a pass to find out later the cheapskates have been doing this crap for 4 years! really put some money in this dump! and fix it up to a level of average would be a huge step up!
Maybe a beach towel that's a new concept at a resort???
Your Staff is Awesome now its the owners turn to Step up! If it wasn't for Tim and Ken we would have checked out in the first 24 hours and went to another Resort on the Island!

My wife and I began our ten-day stay on Little Cayman with 2 nights at Sunset Cove before checking into a near-by all-inclusive dive resort. We also planned to stay one additional night after finishing our seven-day booking at the all-inclusive, but since our initial stay was so incredibly disappointing, we added an extra day on the end at the all-inclusive (at a much higher rate) just to avoid going back to Sunset Cove.

The resort is filthy and in disrepair, and this is not limited to exterior areas. For example, the trashy bar had an open bottle of power steering fluid sitting on the sink, and it was very apparent that the items in the adjoining cabinets have not been touched in months. The recreational gear not only was not available for use, but was stuffed into cabinets (wet!). I doubt any of it has seen an ounce of TLC -- ever!

The room was clean but very basic. Indeed, we had to grab one of the trashy plastic beach chairs just so we could have one chair in the room. The heavy plastic bag encasing the mattress compromised its marginal comfort.

The staff, however, was very helpful and did all they could to make our stay pleasant. However, it appears their ability to deliver a quality guest experience was totally compromised by a lack of resources. Indeed, word on the island is that the owners reside in Grand Cayman and have cut the operating budget to the bone. Locally, Sunset Cove has a horrible reputation as a place to spend your Little Cayman time.

Oh, and I forgot to mention the large rat running free in the dining room. Definitely NOT what you want to see while eating!

In my heart I cannot recommend staying here. Traveling to and from Little Cayman is expensive, as is staying there; accordingly, my recommendation is to book elsewhere on Little Cayman or avoid going completely. There simply is no basis for committing your hear-earned money to such an inferior vacation destination when so many other options exist. Just my most humble opinion.

We are extremely sorry you were disappointed with your stay at Sunset Cove. We strive to make our guests happy and, sometimes, that doesn’t happen. Your visit took place at a time that we experienced serious staff issues. To clear up one inaccuracy, the area you spoke of that is in disrepair is a building on the grounds that is not currently in-use and hasn’t been for over a year. It should’ve been locked up and we don’t know why it wasn’t. Regardless, there is no excuse for the overall lack of attention to detail that you experienced. When we read your review, we took action immediately. Rather than finding out about the problems you had via an online forum, which was well after your departure, we wish we had known immediately so that we could’ve done something to accommodate you to make your vacation a more pleasant experience. Thank you for bringing these matters to our attention, but please know that we’re truly sorry you were unhappy. The former staff has been completely replaced with mature, responsible, competent individuals that are extremely customer-service oriented and focused on making our guest’s stay rewarding. Rest assured that these matters have been taken care of and great care has been taken to address your concerns.

Despite their website, they've had no kitesurfing instruction or service here for 5 months. They called us a week or so before and let us know that the instructor had left for the season due to "poor wind" conditions but by then it was too late for us to cancel our flights. When we got to the island, we found out through a local that they hadn't had a kitesurfing instructor for at least 5 months, long before we booked our trip here. Misleading and false advertising is one thing - they really need to update their website and be upfront with their customers.

Nonetheless, we still had a good time on Little Cay. Sunset Cove is in a beautiful location, but don't expect luxury or even cleanliness of any sort. The sheets and towels were stained and dirty, the room we stayed in had a serious roach problem, and in the end their prices did not match their website.

This is a bare frills motel on the beach. In hindsight, especially without the ability to kitesurf, I would have gladly paid the extra to stay somewhere more pleasant.

We value your opinion and appreciate your feedback. We realize we can’t please everyone 100% of the time, but we do our best to make our guests’ visits as enjoyable as possible. If we had been given the opportunity to address your concerns during your stay, we’re confident it would have been more pleasant for you. In all fairness, we contacted you in advance to let you know there would not be a kite instructor on-site during your holiday. We also informed you we keep an instructor on stand-by if the wind is cooperative. We’re sorry you were disappointed about not being able to kite, but we have no control over the weather. With this in mind, we have updated our website accordingly. Sunset Cove is known as a world-class kiteboarding destination. Remarkable hospitality, service and cleanliness are our top priorities and we provide the most reasonable rates on Little Cayman. We hope we have an opportunity to serve you better in the future.

First off I will say David did a wonderful job of making the stay the best it possibly could be. Location is a little over 3 miles east of the airport and the beach (cove) view is very nice and peaceful. There are some mosquito issues here at especially at sunrise and sunset so bring mosquito spray (one gal at the resort looked like she was eaten alive). Although this isn't only an issue for Sunset as we saw folks from other places that had a good number of bites from being out at sunset. David's service I would rate 5 out of 5, our issues really were that the place needed some serious updating. Water pressure was extremely low, showerhead was the height of "little people", bed was worse than dorm quality, no hangers, no storage for clothing, very dated and basic, air conditioners were extremely noisy in many of the units. If it wasn't for David we would rate this a "2" as the resort needed some money spent in refurbishing (probably a good $250K needed to refresh this place and make it an enjoyable inviting resort both inside and out). We had no internet access in our room but internet in the common area and outside was OK.

We are not very demanding, but this is VERY basic accommodations. We could count on our fingers everything in our room: 1 bed, 1 chair, 1 dresser, 1 bar of soap, etc. Yes, you have the basics, but nothing more. The wall air conditioner was loud, but necessary, as this end of the "bay" seems to receive very little breeze. The water is not inviting, as it has lots of turtle grass (but that is same every place here). Our outside photos of the hotel and beach look nice, but close up things are a bit sad. Beach furniture was a few plastic chairs, a couple of chaises, and one hammock. The "restaurant" is only open by prior arrangement, as the cook is called in. The innkeeper was very pleasant, and seems to be trying to turn this place around. But his assurance that we didn't need a car, and could ride a bike was not good advice for us. It is 2 miles from the "town", and 90 degrees + high humidity. We liked Little Cayman, but would not return here - and the price was no bargain.

This is a place to go to experience Little Cayman Caribbean Style! Very quiet, beautiful sunsets, casual accommodations. Leave your mainland expectations at home! Not a fancy hotel with bars or a swimming pool, but a superb manager David who is very accommodating in many ways. Excellent place to enjoy various water sports or just relaxing in a hammock!
