Staying one night only in Barcelona, this hostel was a great find. On coming in, the staff were very friendly and welcoming, answering all our questions and helping us get grounded in the city. Our room was simple but clean, with everything we could need. The bathroom was lovely, great temperature, and the balcony a wonderful thing to have (the parakeets outside not so much, but that's not something that the staff can help!). Breakfast was okay in the morning, but the value and the location couldn't be beaten. The only downside was that my bed kept moving along the floor when I lent against the back wall - slightly annoying, but nothing major.

The hotel from walking through the entrance into the reception area started to impress the wife and me.

Staff were friendly and very helpful from the onset. I don't think one we met did not greet us with a 'hola' greeting.

The rooms and indeed the whole hotel were kept very clean and room service was evident every day of our stay.

The room we were allocated was on the first floor at the front of the hotel and despite activity in the street it overlooked the windows when closed were of such quality that they kept all but the most determined street noise at bay.

Our room was well designed and though simply decorated had everything you would expect from a hotel within this price range.

I'm not sure about the reader of this review but to me a good comfortable bed that you can sleep in and feel refreshed in the morning is of great importance.

Suffice to say, the beds were excellent.

We would happily describe what was on offer from this hotel was far above expectations.

Basic breakfasts were available on a self serve, as much as you can eat, buffet basis and at five euros were very good value indeed. this included cereals, yoghurt fruit, cold meats cheese as well as scrambled egg, sausages, bacon and fried tomatoes. Staff kept an eye on the levels which were topped up with great efficiency.

So as you can read, there is something to suit every one.

Being located within a less than five minute short walk to Lesseps metro station no where in Barcelona isn't within easy reach of your hotel base.

The location is ideal if you are visiting the local sights. Anywhere you want to visit is only minutes away from your location.

We would recommend a metro card for just under ten euros that give you ten trips on the metro/bus/tram anywhere in the area of Barcelona.

These can easily be purchased from any metro station such as Lesseps.

Being somewhat in the suburbs you will also benefit from the considerably cheaper prices in the local tapas/bars within a few hundred metres of the hotel. Less than half price of the city centre bars in fact!

This is a very friendly, well managed and maintained hotel which is definitely in our future plans for a revisit to this beautiful city.

For the record, I am 60 and my wife 52. We take short breaks in Europe quite often for recreational/cultural visits.
We like to choose good value accommodation. This one rates very highly with our experiences and operates at a level above its cost.

My friend and i stayed here last week, having read reviews we were a bit sceptical as it had been likened to a hostel!! What we found was a basic hotel, lovely room, comfortably furnished, shower was one of the best I have had on hols, clean towels every day. Breakfast was not included, but was available at less than 5 euros, and there was a room available where you could bring in your own food and sit at tables to eat. There are lots of grocery shops in the street for those who wish to do this..we had coffee and biscuits in our room for breakfast!! The Metro is a 5 min walk away and 3 stops from La Rambla, we paid approx 10 euro for 2 tickets which gave us 10 journeys each. Gruell Park is in walking distance, I would most definitely use it again.

Good location and friendly staff. However rooms lack of basic cleaning. Afraid of sitting on sofa full of dirt and spots. Bathroom could also appreciate better cleaning.
Breakfast room staff cannot catch up with cleaning tables.

You can tell the quality of a place for the helpfulness of the staff. The hotel cares more about profit than the quality of the stay of its guests.
Please keep reading for some background information about my comments. I booked the hotel via a booking website and from past experiences I usually book non refundable rooms. This time I was very unfortunate to having to change my bookings because of Covid. The hotel didn't want to change my original booking and I had to get in touch with the Booking website to make it possible.
My passport was about to expire in three months so I was uncertain when I could rebook my hotel for, but given that I only have a couple of days to do it, I contacted the embassy to get an appointment and asked how long it would take to get a new passport. The embassy told me it would be 4 weeks from my appointment so I rebook the hotel for 8 weeks after my appointment just in case.
The day of my booking was coming but I still had no passport, I contacted the embassy and they told me there have been delays and I wouldn’t get my passport for 4 months. I tried to change my hotel booking once more but the hotel did not want to do it. When I contacted the booking website (with different staff this time) they couldn’t help me either so I lost the money I paid for the booking.
I take responsibility for my mistake of booking a non refundable room but I did not want my money back, I just wanted to change the date. I did not expect my passport not to be ready, it was out of my hands and I could not physically go. It would have not cost anything to the hotel to change the date but instead they just wanted to take my payment despite my misfortune. You can tell the quality of a place for the helpfulness of the staff. The hotel cares more about profit than the quality of the stay of its guests.

We had made a booking at Residencia Erasmus through booking.com but when we arrived (at midnight) we were informed by a letter left at reception that they were sorry but the place was full and they had booked us into another hotel. The other hotel was miles away and was in fact a student hall of residence place on the university campus in the far north of the city. We had booked this hotel as we had an early meeting close by and were furious that they had not let us know sooner so we could have found a more suitable alternative. The following day, I received an e-mail from booking.com saying we had to pay a cancellation fee for not showing up. On calling them and explaining the situation, they too were angry as they said the hotel is obliged to call them and not just send people to another hotel. Had we called booking.com they would have found us somewhere in the same area and Erasmus would have had to pay the difference - obviously why they just ferried us off somewhere else. I insisted at the time that the night porter call the director who, when I spoke to him (at first he refused to speak to me) was rude and non-apologetic. I would not recommend this hotel for this reason only - it's just not worth the risk of turning up and finding you have no room after all.

Our room was clean, well decorated & quite modern. The shower had excellent pressure and was very roomy. Maids kept the place very well & we found the staff on the desk very friendly. Couldn't fault any aspect of the room or reception area. Great hotel & great price.

We have arrived st the hotel quite late at night to find it full when we had a reservation booked. They first send us to a room with someone sleeping, and then they couldn't solve the problem. We ended up going to another place wich yhey called to see if there were any rooms available, not assuming any responsibility for the diference in price nor for the situation in itself. We went back the day after to find the manager calling himself "tonto" because he didnt want to resolve the issue. ..its just bad attitude!

Response from residenciaerasmus, Director de Recepción at Residencia Erasmus Gracia
Responded Jul 28, 2014
Estimado Sr. Paulo Machado.

good: great, helpful and friendly stuff, I had problem with my reservation and they really helped me as much as they could. Also I was robbed in Bcn, and the stuff was really helpful about all my needs (to send a fax to the embassy, to receive a post for me)....The room was spacious and clean, as well as bathroom.
The only "bad" thing was about location, it is not in the city center but by metro you'll get there in 5 mins.

I also could say the same, it was in the room. But you always could write to the hotel and confirm - they are very responsive and helpful (and speak English- it is important point in Spain!)

No it isn't just for students. I'm in my 70s and was back-packing. The staff were great and the accommodation excellent. There is a kitchen if you want to cook for yourself. Good bars and cafes nearby. It's about 4.5km from Barcelona Sants station - a nice hour long walk.

We didn't encounter this kind of problem when we were there. The door was always opened. But I suggest you to ask the phone number... just in case...

Hi, how far is this hotel from the airport?
Answer from Marcus T
London, United Kingdom39 contributions26 helpful votes
Its about half an hour by bus from the airport to the centre of town, Plaza Calalunya. The Gracia district is a few stops on the metro from there. Get off at Lesseps. Total journey time is less than an hour.

Yes, it is OK as long as you don't need clean towels every day or a safe box in your room to keep passports or values. Subway is far and staff is not always in the best mood
