Staff were very pleasant!
Con’s - So Noisy!!!!!
we were on the 1st floor & the street noise was very loud!
Our room also had really noisy plumbing pipes in the walls. Every time the room above us used their toilet or shower we could hear it very loudly in our room often waking us up during the night.
We could also hear our noisy (but very lovely) neighbours in the next room. They enjoyed the late nightlife of Barcelona. Not so great when they would return to their room very late in the early hours of the morning while we were sleeping & wake us up.
We were also very disappointed when we went to have breakfast (8am) to be told it wasn’t included in our booking even though we had travel documents saying it was included. When we approached reception about it, we were told we had to wait till 9am so they could contact their main office to clarify our booking. We had a tour booked in & couldn’t wait an hour. The staff member we spoke with was very polite about it but we were very annoyed!!
The room was a nice room, we were put on the first floor, a quick sufficient check in and payment of city tax we were given our keycard to the room, we had 2 single beds pushed together and a single bed seperate, a wardrobe for clothes and a safe ( that we had to work out for ourselfs) to put cash and belongings in.
The bathroom consisted of a bath with a shower above..
The room and hotel was nice and clean, staff were good, most were brill, a couple on reception were polite , staff in the breakfast room were great and really friendly
Breakfast was good, hot and cold food and surprisingly very good sausages.
Id of given the review a 5 but because we were only on the first floor and facing the fromt we had a lot of noise from people passing and being loud and a truck passing ( poss binmen) around 5.30am. But the hotel have no control over this.
id deffo reccomend the hotel and would 100% return next time im in barcelona.
The rooms have air con and heating which works and the beds are comfy. Our room had a shower room which was fine. (The shower was not a power shower)
There is a safe in the room and you can get the key from reception for free. We had a fridge too but it didn’t work.
There is a roof terrace which I was really looking forward to using but it was not available during our stay. I got various stories from staff from ‘the door was being fixed’ to ‘it is open - just try again’ but it was not open at all during our stay.
Plenty plug sockets and free wifi available.
* The safe in the room was not working. When we tried to lock it, it said 'bad PIN'.
* The bathroom missed the floor towel (they added it after the 2nd housekeeping). And the shower gel provided is making the skin very dry, I personally have slightly more sensitive skin so I had to buy my own. In a 4* you expect higher quality cosmetics.
* The room is not very spacious - for example, there is a luggage stand provided, but if you put your suitcase on it, you can only have it in the space where it partially blocks the door to the bathroom (other possible places would block the closet or the 'balcony' door).
* The breakfast was ok, but every day was the same. If you spend 7 nights in the hotel with not even a slight change in the buffet offering, it turns into suffering. And the first day we saw a cockroach in the breakfast room, which raises some questions about hygiene standards.
The "bed" story
* After arriving in our room, we saw two separate (twin) beds and went to reception to ask for one large bed (double). The reception clerk told us today there are no other available rooms, but he will make a note, and we should get back the next day to ask for a room change.
* The next day (as instructed), we asked the receptionist if it would be possible to resolve our request. He told us to pack our belongings, and after 2 PM we should have them moved into another room and we'll be given access to it.
* At the mentioned time we came back to the hotel and asked the receptionist where should we go. He said there is no room change but they changed the bed in the room. It was surprising to hear the hotel would change the furniture, but we went to the room expecting some change. There was no change, and the room looked the same (only it was cleaned as part of standard daily housekeeping).
* So we returned to the reception asking what happened, and the clerk informed us that they can not change the bed or something like that. Here I must mention that the level of English language of receptionists was very bad and we just lost the willpower to ask more questions and accepted two separate beds.
* We went back to the room. After several minutes somebody knocked on the door. It was a cleaning lady asking something in Spanish about beds. I speak no Spanish, she spoke no English, so she called reception on the phone and they told me they will now change the beds. Of course, I agreed. Lady then went away.
* Another couple of minutes later the reception called again, that they will NOW change the beds. I have no idea why they still called as we were waiting for the action to happen. Then, the lady from housekeeping came and changed the bed sheets from 2 smaller to 1 large, which made the two beds (more or less) stick together. During her activity the receptionist called again, that we should not be in the room whilst she is changing the bed sheets, which we didn't understand why - there was enough space without us stepping out of the room and also she was almost done when the receptionist called.
We arrived on Sunday @3pm and was given a room that we didn’t book, we then called reception up to our room. We contacted them 3 times and on the 3rd they finally came to our room. We were told ‘because you’ve touched things we can’t move you’ baring In mind we hadn’t unpacked anything we just walked in the room with our cases.
After not being given much choice we had to stay in the room we were given even though we expressed our disappointment.
After a long day of travelling and going out exploring we arrived back at our room at 9:30pm, when getting into bed we noticed a brown mark (who knows what it was looked like human soil) on the white sheet. I went straight down to reception and he looked at me like I was crazy and told me it was balm from the bed???? This mark was under the covers not anywhere near the top of the bed. I then said I wanted new sheets and in an annoyed voice he said ‘okay when my colleague is back I will bring them’. We then waited over 45 minutes in our hotel room for the new sheets to come, shock they didn’t turn up, baring in mind we had to be up early for an activity the next day. My partner then had to go down a second time and they said ‘there’s nothing they can do’. We then had to share a single bed for the remaining of the night and woke up with back pain due to lack of space.
We then left the hotel the next day and came back after our room had been ‘cleaned’. No fresh bed sheets, no fresh towels and after a shower we could clearly see writing on the mirror which previous people had wrote on and house keeping hadn’t cleaned it.
After all of this the individuals at hotel reception were rude, didn’t greet us when we came in, very blunt when we asked for help ordering a taxi and hardly looked up from the computer screens.
Although this hotel is a cheaper option and you’ll only be sleeping I would suggest staying at another hotel to cause less stress and for you to be able to enjoy your holiday.
Loved this hotel. Great location in the middle of the Gothic quarter. Very walkable and interesting place, near Plaza Jaume, lots of restaurants and stores within walking distance.
Hotel breakfast (12 euros) was a big buffet with all essentials (eggs, cereal, yogurt, several fruits and juices, coffee machine with many flavors) as well as several cheeses and cold cuts. Fast, efficient service.
Our room was very convenient, good mattresses, many lighting options. USB outlets would have been nice.
Solarium on the 5th floor is nice but it closes at 9, so we could not celebrate the New Year there.
The room was cleaned and made up daily, which was a nice change from American motels which had cut back on such services since the pandemic.
Highly recommend this hotel.
The Hotel is situated in a central location.
One comment I would make is that we used to book through third party websites, but now we only book directly with the Hotel, I do wonder if that is why our rooms are usually that much better, plus we usually get a better deal, We made several changes to our booking, being able to contact the Hotel directly made it easier they always responded quickly and done their best to accommodate our requests.
"We had to pay tourist tax at check in which was around 15% of the price we paid for the hotel, so be aware if you are on a tight budget."Read full review
