This was a once in a lifetime trip and it was perfect. We chose this resort because it is a wellness resort and it didn’t disappoint. The set is beautiful. Right on the beach with ocean facing rooms and lovely areas to soak up the sun. A lovely open design with many areas to sit peacefully as well as many activity areas. The whole place is run so well. All the staff are welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Every day everything is prepared beautifully. The food is excellent, the cleanliness is meticulous, the grounds are kept clean and freshly racked and the beach is cleared of seaweed daily. The staff have colour coded uniforms and always look immaculate. Along the beach you can see where turtles have laid their eggs. We were extremely luck to see this one night. Don’t miss snorkelling, there’s lots to see! A range of treatments can be had at the spa and I throughly recommend a massage....but the best part was the yoga. Hiram is the most beautiful, spiritual, passionate yoga teacher I have ever known. The weekly programme caters for everyone. Make the effort to get up at 7am every morning and go to meditation. Can you imagine a better place than sitting in a straw roofed wooden open tranquil space with a view of the Carrabean sea meditating. The yoga sessions are at different levels and Hiram meets the needs of everyone. He has such a special approach to communicating with you, that you come away each morning feeling energised and completely relaxed. Sadly few people attend these classes, despite it being a wellbeing resort, the yoga is not promoted enough. We chose this resort because it offered yoga. I thoroughly recommend this wonderful place for your next vacation.

Hola!! My hubby and I have been to Mexico many times and we always enjoyed our time. The staff at Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort were very friendly and assisted without hesitation. We made friends with the staff and they made us feel at home. To mention, Caroline in Public Relations who sits in the lobby area was very sweet and professional. She was so patient whenever we asked her questions. She was always smiling to greet us and other people. (I miss her!) Also, in housekeeping Nathalie (hope I’m spelling right), she was so nice and kept our clean and left us cute towel animals ever since I told her that I like them. Then, there was Adriana (think that’s her name) at the buffet. She always remembered us and brought our coffee to our liking. She didn’t had to ask us, she just brought us coffee whenever she saw us at the table. Our favorite restaurants at the hotel were Alux (Mexican restaurant) and Rodizio (Brazilian). The food was great and flavorful. They did not disappoint with great services. Pedro at Rodizio was very friendly and professional and took care of us with his hospitality. The hotel itself had a nature vibe and the lobby bars had great servers. Let me mention that the server from the bar, Lydia was awesome. She would always stop by our table to say Hello and talk with us. Rigo, the bartender was very good with making the drinks. I went to the Spa at the hotel and it was beautiful with the huge Buddha Statue. The massage was amazing too. Overall, the staff and hospitality were amazing and wonderful. It felt very peaceful place to relax and enjoy. Thank you to the staffs mentioned and if I missed to mention others, thank you and hugs to staff who crossed our path. Viva Mexico!!!

The resort was very clean and the wait and cleaning staff was top notch.
The servers, bartenders and the cleaning staff were always smiling and helpful.
We traveled in Mid July with my 11 year old son. He had the best time snorkeling. The equipment was free for the first hour, and we went out every day. We saw stingrays close to the waters edge, and turtles and fish out a little further. There are several small reefs with colorful fish less than 100 feet from the shore. Make sure you wear your water shoes. I honestly didn't know that there was water this clear in Mexico.
A bit of advice, follow the larger snorkeling tours around. They have someone with an underwater scuba propeller looking for the turtles, so follow them for a guaranteed and free sighting.
This resort has one large main pool and a few smaller ones, almost like dipping pools to cool off. The outdoor sunbeds are very nice, if you can get one. They did NOT enforce the rules when it came to " reserving " chairs and sunbeds, but life goes on.
The entire resort was " open air " . The only place to really cool off in the air conditioning was your room. It was sometimes difficult to eat, it was just so hot and stuffy. In their defense, it was July in Mexico.
The Brazilian Steak house was great, and we loved the smaller buffet at the pool. The portions at the other specialty restaurants were small but you can order all that you want . The buffet had a lot of " fancy " things, that we honestly didn't try, but you could always find something good. If you eat at the Main buffet, sit outside where you can catch the ocean breeze- it was a little stuffy in the main buffet.
One day we did go in to Playa Carmen to do a little shopping, and the bellhop found us the best cab driver that spoke English. He even waiting for us for 3 hours while we shopped and ate, no extra charge. $60 rounds trip USD
We did one excursion that was recommended by the staff at Akumal. The Mayan Adventures. Zip lines, and quad running in the jungle, and swimming in a Cenote- followed by lunch. A 5 hour excursion...absolutely GREAT !!
I only have a few complaints. The room service menu is very limited, and they will not let you carry food out from the buffets. At the end of the day , my son was tired and just wanted to sit in the air conditioned room and eat but the room service menu was the same things he had been eating the entire week ( typical kid, burgers, pizza, etc ) . The last night, he had an ear ache from swimmers ear. I asked if I could have Pasta from the buffet delivered to the room since he was "sick". I was willing to pay. The front desk proceeded to tell me that I shouldn't be feeding a sick kid pasta, that I should feed him soup. I didn't feel I should have to explain to the front desk what type of " sick " my child was, but hey- thank you for the unsolicited parenting advice and I guess attitude is included in the all-inclusive.
The fridge in the room was restocked everyday with, 1 coke, 1 coke light, 1 Fanta , 1 Sprite, 2 Heineken and a small pack of chips and a mini candy bar. That was very nice, BUT if you wanted anything other than that- they wouldn't do it.. My husband doesn't drink coffee and wanted only coke lights for a little caffeine in the morning. When he called to ask about that, he was also met attitude. They told us to walk up the beach, past Secrets and go to the store.
Even though that advice wasn't well received, it was a nice surprise. We would walk every night up the beach, past our beach- and through the Secrets Beach to a little shopping plaza by the community dive center. It was very secure, security EVERYWHERE and do a little shopping. They had souvenir shops and a couple of carry outs. There you could purchase soda, Gatorade, candy, chips and other things the resort did not provide. They even had antibiotic ear drops for my son.
They had some activities on the schedule for each day, but they simply handed us the schedule and didn't explain the where's and when's of the activities. There were very brief descriptions on the calendar.
We did not use the spa or attend a yoga class. But heard WONDERFUL things about both from other guests.
Overall, it was a nice resort - small and easy to get around. The rooms were thoroughly cleaned everyday. The snorkeling was perfect for our family.

We had an excellent time celebrating our anniversary here! The staff was phenomenal. The food, drinks, and experience was great. Our favorite restaurant was Alux Mexican food — Oliver served us on our anniversary and went above and beyond for my partner and I. The location was beautiful and there were plenty of sun loungers and chairs to soak up the rays. The staff was very attentive, always checking on us throughout. The spa was amazing! Itzel and Gilberta are blessed with incredible hands!! Seriously — we went there *twice* because we couldn’t get enough!! They gave us the best massages we’ve ever had! Filipe at the pelican bar was also great — he made excellent drinks and gave us excellent service. The resort tried really hard to help with the seaweed problem Tulum has this time or year. They ensured it wasn’t too much of a nuisance. Food was great and so were the drinks. Nighttime ambience with the hot tub and the waves was out of this world *chef’s kiss* The morning yoga and mediations were great — and we were skeptical. It was a great experience and we can’t wait to go back one day!

Let me start by saying we came here about six years ago when it was called the Akumal Beach Resort. It was completely rundown but the beach was fantastic.Food was good enough to get by.Here it is 2017,property completely remodeled and not one negative review! Was here from June 3 to the 10th.Paid the extra $50.a night for the penthouse with roof top jacuzzi. Round tub that two people could not use at the same time comfortably.Wasted $350.The specialty restaurants were terrible.Expected the hibachi grill in the Japanese restaurant,no such thing.Thankfully the buffet was better than most all inclusives I have been to.Drinks were piss poor.Entertainment was non existent.Spa didn't even do pedicures. They now truck in all kinds of people to swim with the turtles that this piece of paradise is no more. The locals are scamming people to rent life jackets and hire a guide to snorkel.I wish it stayed the run down Akuma; beach resort, back then the beach made up for it.Sadly I will no longer go to what was once truly paradise.(I am not being overly critical,I waited awhile to write this)Spend your money on another resort,or be disappointed.
