Some very good points and some not so good. Difficult to get in a la carte restaurants, you either have to go at 5.45pm or put your name down and wait until around until 8.15. Kooban we thought was the best but liked also the brazillian steak house. The mexican serves very little mexican fare and is more internasional and the room isn't the nicest. We stayed in building 4, great views but I had to get up at 6.30am to claim a sunlounger. I stayed up to watch first light but witnessed people just putting towels down amd walking off. Your can't swim out from this side of the beech, you have to walk down to by the buffet restaurant but it's still rocky but not as bad to walk out. There are lots of STINGRAYS here so you have to shiffle out, I missed one snorkeling by about 6 inches as it's tail whipped around. They come in very close and bury themselves in the sand.
Bands in the lobby bar are a very good standard and all different style, from jazz to rock. The rooms are big but basic and have no private bathroom, Just a frosted glass door to the toilet and one to the shower, they are open plan. No privacy at all. Staff at reception we found helpful but you need to tip to get decent service anywhere else, we where not looked after well at breakfast in the buffet and it's a bit chaotic but after tipping, got much better. Lovely views ans quiet and relaxing. Spa is good but pricey! There is no ATM for miles and a bit sketchy walking to it. Would return but not for the price we paid ans wouldn't pay extra for penthouse as it's on two floor your room, so you have stairs in your room.

Other then the uncertainty of our flight via Sunwing, the vacation was amazing. Once we arrived, although a little later in the evening then planned, we were greeted by the staff. They took our bags and directed us to the desk where a welcome Margherita was waiting. We were told that we were given a free upgrade to a penthouse suite!!! WOW. Talk about feeling welcomed!
The room was great! Rm 3301. 2 floors with the upper area being where the lounge chairs, 2 muskoka chairs and jacuzzi tubs was.......and an incredible view.
I can't say how well we were treated here. This was our first vacation to this resort and it felt like home. Great food and drinks, a la cartes were very good with a good selection on the menus, and the staff were amazing. Marissa and Guadeloupe always kept our drinks flowing on the beach....we always said "here come the trouble makers" when we saw them coming. 2 tequilas, 2 mini beers and 2 mango margheritas were easily memorized by them. :)
The snorkeling was our favourite thing to do here. Being amateurs in this area, we brought our own mask, snorkel and mini flippers (which worked great) and saw so many different fish! It was like swimming in an aquarium. Turtles were always around and such a great experience seeing them. People complain about the seaweed that was washing up but hey, its the ocean. You can't control it! The workers were there EVERY DAY doing their best at cleaning it up. For me, it wasn't an issue.
We're so glad we chose this resort and can't wait to return! HUGE thanks to the staff and Emanuele for making this a very special get away for us!

We stayed here for our 20th wedding anniversary. We were told this hotel was fantastic and we we're not disappointed. We we're upgraded to a penthouse suite the room was fabulous massive comfortable bed, Very good air conditioning and a lovely terrace with a whirlpool tub. The resort is very nice and all the staff are very friendly and helpful. The food is fantastic so much choice and we especially liked that you could use all the restaurants without booking and as may times as you want. We booked a meal on the beach for our anniversary and the food and service were exceptional. I wish i could remember the names of the staff but i cannot. The resort has a beautiful beache where we went snorkelling and saw turtles and lots of fish.

We will definitely return and would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to visit Mexico.

Thank you for your making our holiday and anniversary so memorable.

We recently returned from a wonderful 2 weeks in Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort 12 Aug – 26 Aug 2017).

This holiday was special in many ways, and it was clear from early on that it was going to be very hard to beat in the future. We booked the holiday through Thomas Cook and flew from London (Stanstead) on the Saturday Morning, arriving in Mexico on the Saturday afternoon. We opted to book private transfers (with a company recommended by the resort). Our transfer took around an hour, was very relaxed and was money well spent I think.

The welcome at the resort was extremely friendly and we were provided with lovely cocktails whilst we checked in. The formalities were completed quickly and efficiently, and we were escorted to our room (A Junior Garden Suite). Everything was as it should be, and spotlessly clean. I felt relaxed straight away, and ready to start my holiday.

The resort is all inclusive and has a number of bars and restaurants which cater for most tastes. We chose to eat in the Buffet Restaurant most evenings as the variety is huge, and most importantly the food is regularly changed to keep it fresh. We tried all of the restaurants with the exception of the snack bar (simply because we ran out of time) and found that the quality of the food throughout was excellent.

You don’t get the large resort feel at Akumal, it seems to absorb the guest population very well. True, there are certain peak times at breakfast and evening meal where you may have to wait a short while for a table, but the staff will assist to seat you as soon as possible. We stayed in Block 4 which is towards the far end of the resort, but this was quite nice as I imagine it is quieter than being in Block 1 or 2 by the pool/bar area. This suited us perfectly, and it was a short pleasant walk along the beach to the centre of the resort.

In the evenings there is usually some event taking place in the Lobby Bar, including live music, dancing, Tequila tasting or our favourite, the champagne and chocolates evening (I only wish I had left more room for chocolates after dinner). I believe that there is another bar on the resort that continues into the early hours, but to be honest we were normally too exhausted after an active day to stay up beyond 11pm.

The hotel is run like clockwork and I cannot fault the hotel staff. They work extremely hard, and are so courteous and friendly, I really could not have asked for more.

I always like to mention particular members of staff who displayed the highest levels of customer service and helped make our holiday so wonderful. My only regret is that I did not get to learn more names, as really everyone was very good. I would however, like to mention the following:

Carlos – From the buffet restaurant who looked after us so attentively at breakfast and lunchtime.

Aurora – Who cooked the eggs at breakfast. Her beaming smile and cheery welcome made for a great start to the day (Not to mention her eggs were always perfectly cooked to order)

Sandra – Who was always so happy and kept us supplied with ice cold refreshments from the beach bar.

Marcia - Who looked after us so well in the evenings at the lobby bar.

If you love nature this is certainly the place for you. There is an abundance of wildlife to be seen in and around the resort which certainly added to our trip. We were also privileged to swim with the turtles in the bay, (along with all sorts of other wonderful fish) and witnessed turtles hatching and laying eggs on the resort beach.

So would I return to Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness resort? My answer is yes. Without a doubt.

Did I feel it was good value for money? Yes!!

Would I recommend it? Yes without any reservation whatsoever. You will love it

Many thanks Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort for giving us such wonderful memories!!

Loved this resort. We stayed for two weeks from end Feb to early March and were a group of 6; most of us said we'd go back. The beach and water and snorkelling is fantastic here. No need to take an excursion to snorkel! We saw giant sea turtles, stingrays and a barracuda in addition to lots of colourful fish and coral. A special shout-out to the animation staff who worked hard all day and were always friendly - Jhovana, Giovanna and especially Karla, who also provided us with a very interesting talk on the sea turtles. Because of Karla we also searched out the ecological centre in Akumal for even more good information. Thank you.
There are a lot of Pros to this resort - great beach and snorkelling, lots of loungers and palapas, staff, food at buffet and most of the specialty restaurants, comfortable beds, lively lobby bar with good bands. And all rooms face the ocean.
Only a few cons - we had a bad experience at the Rodrigio restaurant and didn't go back; the room furniture impractical with no chairs or drawers although it looks stylish; the couch is very uncomfortable; closet clothes bar is ridiculously high (2 women in our group could not even reach it); toilet has only a partial door.
Overall a great resort with a great beach. We'll be back!

The garden view suites are the best so you have an outside sitting area and you can feed the iguanas! Blocks 3 and 4 are the closest to the water and have the best view but you cannot swim in this section. They also have newly refurbished decor.
