Arrived in Milan on the train from Verona, the hotel is out the front exit, on your right a block or two. There is construction, so we crossed the street, walked a little bit, then crossed back over. The hotel has a lovely lobby, the staff was friendly. We were given a beautiful room on the 4th floor – as you walk in the door there was a big closet with a safe, iron and ironing board, walking further into the room was a small sitting area with a desk (hair dryer underneath the desk), TV, drawers for storage, a mini bar, two chairs and a coffee table. In the same room was a king size bed with two night stands. The bathroom had double sinks, a bath tub, a shower and another hair dryer. Attached to the room was a huge balcony, it was just beautiful – no furniture, but a nice area!
The first thing on our agenda was laundry, we were told of a self-service laundry (Wash Planet) – turn left out of the hotel, then take the first left, walk about 3 blocks and it’s on your left. It was kind of a sketchy place, it cost 9 Euros for one wash and dry, took about 60 minutes total. They sold laundry detergent for 1 Euro, I brought my own. It is a very tiny place, nowhere to fold or sort clothes. To pay for the washer, someone working there took our money and then started the washing machine from the back room; the dryer took tokens or Euros and you could do that yourself. It should be noted that the hotel also provides a laundry service, not sure how much that costs or how long it takes.
Being Diamond Hilton Honor Members we had access to the Executive Lounge. It was a very nice area that included an outside balcony. Snacks in the Lounge were o.k, we enjoyed the free wine. For us, breakfast was not as good as the evening reception had been, we were especially disappointed in the coffee – we wondered if it was syrup instead of beans. The breakfast provided included eggs, bacon, breads, fruits, etc. Every time we were in the lounge the staff were friendly and busy, keeping the room clean and the food are stocked.
On our second night at the hotel we decided to eat supper in the bar, I had a Club Sandwich with French fries, my husband had a pasta dish. We asked for ice water, but they would only sell us bottled water. Our bill came to 56 Euros, this included a 3.50 euro service charge per person. My opinion is it was a mistake eating at the hotel, had it not been raining we definitely would have eaten somewhere else nearby. While my husband thought his pasta dish was extremely good, I did not feel my club sandwich was worth 21 Euros, and I especially hated paying that service charge. The second night we went around the corner to Norin Caffe Bistro, each of us had a serving of lasagna and a glass of wine, the total bill came to 23 Euros. The Norin Caffe Bistro closes at 7:30 pm.
We really enjoyed our room and thought it was comfortable, the one thing I did notice was how dirty the carpet was coming off the elevators and in the hallway; that did not give a very good impression. I’m not sure if we would stay at this hotel again if we were to visit Milan, we probably would check out hotels closer to the city center.
