Stayed at hotel for 3 nights from 31st Dec 07 to celebrate new years. I'm a regular traveller and often look for a clean and comfortable hotel.
Evenia Rosello is located in the quiet suburns of the city with approximately a 15 minute walk from the centre. A convenience store is directly outside, with few restaurants, pubs and bars on your doorstep. Metro is also nearby.
The hotel itself is quite compact, rooms are clean and comfortable, cleaned daily. Television is a minuture 15inch LCD which isn't great considering it is so far away from any seating area, plus reception is poor and no English channels!
The major downside of this hotel was that some of the staff were VERY reluctant to go out of their way to assist you. Room service stops at 10pm and considering we went there to celebrate the new year we it was a shock to be told that we couldn't have any ice or even an iron after this time. The ice machine was turned on at the bar and the staff rudely refused to serve me as the time had gone just after 10pm.
Clearly this is not the level of service expected from a 4 star, based on the size and facilities on offer it is at best a good quality 3 star, with extremely unhelpful staff.

I have to agree with some of the other review writers that this hotel was nicely decorated and looked new and modern. However, it is after this point that I have to disagree with the other positive reviews.

We arrived late in the evening after booking this hotel on the Internet and requesting 2 non smoking adjacent rooms to be told that there were only 2 rooms remaining and they were on different floors and one was a smoking room. The lady at the reception and most of the staff were aloof to the point of rudeness. I understand that this is a 4 star property but I have staying in similar and better places for less attitude.

The problems continued in the following order: in the minibar in my room I noticed a half opened old packet of ham and many drinks missing; there were lamps that had no light bulbs, no one seemed to speak English especially the person who answered the room service line and HUNG UP on me 3 times in a row -eventually someone turned with the following "continental breakfast": 1 tiny croissant and 1 (hot) small glass of OJ = total price 12 Euros.

The hotel was also not central it was located in the business district that was dead in the evening and a half hour walk to the happening area of Barcelona. And then there was the issue of the missing "Business Centre" - it was listed in the hotel guide but some of the staff said it did not exist while others said it was located in another building(?) a few blocks down! We never seemed to solve that mystery but located an Internet cafe elsewhere.

BUT I think the highlight of the mishaps was when after returning one afternoon after being away from the room the whole day to find that my room with all my bags etc, had not had the door locked properly after it was cleaned and so I didn't even need the key to get it - I just pushed the door and it opened...security issues maybe??

To sum up, I think the total experience was like staying at a 4 star Fawlty Towers establishment. I understand that the hotel is still new but they seriously need to get their act together if they are to classify themselves and have the "attitude" of a 4 star hotel. I suggest either new staff or hospitality training for ALL staff.

We did quite a bit of research regarding hotels in Barcelona for our 7 day visit as we wanted to ensure we were "near" the places we wanted to visit but not right in the middle of everything. We are very pleased we went with the Rossello.

For a 4 star it was clean, great room service and the breakfast was absolutely wonderful and fresh. There were some negative comments we read prior to choosing this hotel we were concerned about the food and noise, we did not have an issue with either

It was walking distance to everything and the neighbourhood has everything we needed and we always felt safe and welcome. The bakeries, grocery stores and restaurants were all right there. Our favourite was Bodega Joan and this place was across the street and the food/drink were excellent and a very good price. I will write a separate review on their site

If I could offer one suggestion to the hotel it would be to extend their courtyard to allow for sitting for sipping coffee in morning or wine at night. We attempted to do this a couple of times without luck, we did sit out once and it was very relaxing

Overall we enjoyed our stay at this hotel and highly recommend it

I can recommend this modern 4* hotel due to its very good location in central part of the city, in the proximity of metro lines and BCN University. Nice futuristic room interior, comfortable bed, well equipped and clean room and bathroom, wide variety of drinks and food during breakfast, Gaudi-inspired hotel furniture and decoration. Perfect room service, Wifi connection and helpful staff. Suitable for business trips.
