NYU Email (Google)

NYU has introduced storage limits in response to Google’s decision to eliminate free, unlimited storage for higher education clients. Your NYU Email contributes to your storage total (check your total) and should not be used as file storage. Store long-term records per data retention guidelines and regularly review your NYU Email to delete what you can. Check out these clean-up tips.

NYU Email

NYU Email (Google) provides @nyu.edu email accounts for the NYU community and integrates with other NYU Google Services, including NYU Drive, NYU Calendar, and more.

What's Your Email Address?

Your NYU Email is based on your NYU NetID (e.g. aqe123@nyu.edu), but you can set up a personalized email address (e.g. first.last@nyu.edu).

Who Uses NYU Email?

Most current NYU community members have access to NYU Email, including currently enrolled degree-seeking students, staff, faculty, researchers, and contractors
Alumni and retired faculty can usually keep their email addresses after leaving NYU
Non-degree students should plan to continue using their personal email

Getting Started

1. Activate your NYU Email

Your NYU Google Services are available as soon as you activate your NYU NetID via the NYU Start page: start.nyu.edu
The format for your official NYU Email address is YourNetID@nyu.edu (e.g., aqe123@nyu.edu)

2. Log in to your NYU Email

Configure your email using the Tips and Support resources listed below
NYU IT recommends using a browser or mobile app to access your NYU Email. Avoid using apps, such as Apple Mail or Outlook, as these are not supported by NYU and therefore do not provide the most efficient experience or standard spam filtering

4. Connect your NYU Email to your phone

Follow these instructions to set up your phone
You can set up your email on devices/platforms including the iPhone, iPad, Android, WebOS, and Windows Mobile

Don't Fall for Phishing Attempts

Always be on the lookout for phishing and scam attempts and do not reply to these messages! Report phishing by forwarding suspicious emails to phishing@nyu.edu.

Phishing messages could even appear to be sent from NYU or NYU IT requesting your personal information, such as name, date of birth, or password. NYU IT will never request your password information.

Can I use a desktop email client?

For the best NYU Email experience, we encourage you to access your NYU Email through a desktop browser or the Gmail mobile app. Avoid using desktop apps, such as the Apple Mail app, as these are not supported by NYU and therefore do not provide the most efficient experience or standard spam filtering.

I'm graduating or retiring. Will my NYU email stay active?

The short answer is: It depends.

If you are retiring faculty, you can find more information about your post-retirement eligiblity by reading more on the HR website.

If you are a graduating student, most alumni are eligible for continued email access. For questions, please contact University Development and Alumni Relations.

If you are retiring staff or unsure about your status, please contact the service desk.

Am I eligible for this service or can I request access?

NYU Google accounts are automatically provided to eligible community members including admitted and enrolled degree students, current and retired employees, alumni, and sponsored affiliates. Read more about eligibility in this Knowledge Base article.
