Basic Info

You can insert audio or video media directly onto your page via the Media Player component. It allows media from NYU Stream, Vimeo, and YouTube.

Note: The Media Player only allows videos from certain platforms and limits by the domain they come from.

We recommend hosting videos on free CMS-supported services like NYU Stream, Vimeo, or YouTube. You can also take advantage of captioning services, easy video sharing, and playback metrics through these services.

Tutorial

  1. Navigate to and open your page.
  2. Add the Media Player component.
  3. A new Media Player component placeholder icon will display in the space.
  4. To edit the component, click or touch the placholder. The component toolbar will display along the top of the space.
  5. Select the wrench icon to configure.
  6. In the Details tab, insert the appropriate URL for your audio or video content:
    1. Insert an NYU Stream video; or
    2. Insert a Vimeo video; or
    3. Insert a YouTube video.
  7. Click or touch the checkmark icon to save and close.

Insert an NYU Stream Video

  1. Log into your NYU Stream account from the upper right-hand corner.
  2. Navigate to your videos by clicking your NetID and selecting My Media.
  3. Locate and click the video you want to share on your page.
  4. Click the Share button underneath the video you want to insert.
  5. Copy and paste the URL for the video into the media path field in the Media Player component. 
  6. Click the checkmark icon to save and close.

Insert a Vimeo Video

  1. Click the Share button underneath the video from Vimeo you want to insert.
  2. Copy and paste the share link from Vimeo into the media path field.
  3. Click the checkmark to save and close.

Accessibility Info

Captions

  • All videos posted on the NYU website must include captions. Captions should include both speech and non-speech audio information needed to understand the media content
  • NYU Stream and YouTube have free to use caption services. Don't forget to check and edit all captions for accuracy.
  • You can upload prepared captions for videos hosted in Vimeo.

Audio Descriptions

  • Audio description and captioning are not always used together. If there is visual content that is not adequately described by the audio, then you should add an audio description.
  • Talking head videos typically won't need an audio description provided the audio sufficiently describes any additional visual content that may be included.
  • If the video includes a panel of speakers that are not identified in the audio prior to speaking, then an audio description is required.

Transcripts

  • A video transcript includes correctly sequenced text descriptions of any visual or auditory information. If a screenplay was used to create the video, it could work as a transcript provided it accurately represents the final video.
  • Talking head videos that provide sufficient audio description still require a small text alternative. This should appear below the video and include a general description of the context of the environment, any credits displayed on screen, any text appearing on screen that provide details about the speaker and other basic information. Keep in mind that if it only appears on the screen, then it can't be heard in the audio.
