DEFEND - DEVELOP - DECOLONIZE

About us

We are unapologetically, unabashedly NDN. United like never before, we rise together—arm in arm—to equip all Indigenous Peoples with the tools needed to become architects of their future. Through a holistic approach to infrastructure, funding, advocacy, consulting, and philanthropy we are fostering a world of justice and equity for all people and the planet. -- DEFEND OUR PEOPLE, COMMUNITIES, AND NATIONS Negative resource extraction pollutes our water, destroys our land, contributes to climate change, and violates the rights of our people. Organizing our communities, making our voices heard, and utilizing a wide variety of tactics is imperative in shifting the political and financial systems that impact all aspects of life. -- DEVELOP REGENERATIVE AND SUSTAINABLE INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES We need to meet the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. We are doing this through regenerative community development, renewable energy investments and social enterprise development. -- DECOLONIZE OUR MINDS, COMMUNITIES, AND SOVEREIGN NATIONS The decolonization of our communities and people is directly related to our ability to prosper. Through the revitalization of our Indigenous ceremonies, culture, languages and life ways we will continue to strengthen our identity and break free from the oppressive systems that disconnect us from achieving the healing, growth and connection to spirit that is integral for us as Indigenous people.

There’s no justice on stolen land. There’s no freedom for Indigenous people to fully live as ourselves on our ancestral lands without the intrusion of settler systems dictating our daily lives and committing continued violence against us— erasing our histories and lived experiences, disappearing our women, girls and Two Spirit relatives, overcriminalization and incarceration of our People, extraction from our lands, encroachment on the sovereignty of our Nations. So today, we’re calling out the lies. Today is not a day of independence for us, but a reminder to keep fighting. We continue to organize, mobilize, and fight for our dignity, for our lands, for our personal and collective self-determination, and for TRUE justice for all people and the planet— not just for the privileged and the few. Let today stoke that fire within you to keep fighting for our true liberation, for our Lands, our Bodies, and our People. The next seven generations are depending on us. #FourthOfYouLie #LANDBACK #DefendDevelopDecolonize #NDNCollective

“Today is a sad day for Indigenous Peoples and justice everywhere. The U.S. Parole Commission’s denial of parole for Leonard Peltier, America’s longest serving Indigenous political prisoner, is a travesty,” said Nick Tilsen, president and CEO of NDN Collective. “They denied parole to a survivor of genocidal Indian boarding schools as he struggles to survive this unjust incarceration, they insist on holding him for a crime for which they have no physical evidence against him.” ✊🏽 NDN Collective will continue to demand freedom for Leonard Peltier as his attorneys file an appeal of this decision and push for a grant of clemency from President Joe Biden. 📖 Read Full Press Release: ndnco.cc/lpprd 🔗 Link in Bio under "Read Latest Press Release" Do you want to take action and support the #FreeLeonardPeltier campaign? 🤳 Text “FreeLeonardNow’’ to 50302 to receive latest updates and join the movement. #FreeLeonardPeltier #NDNCollective

Today, NDN Collective and millions of people across Indian Country are devastated to learn that Leonard Peltier, activist and member of the American Indian Movement, has been denied parole by the United States Parole Commission. “This decision is consistent with how the United States government has treated the Indigenous Peoples of these lands. They have broken every promise they have ever made to our Nations, and have ignored their Constitution in order to erode the civil and human rights of Native people. But while we are heartbroken by the parole commission’s decision, our work to ensure that Leonard will receive justice and freedom will continue with renewed dedication,” said Nick Tilsen, NDN Collective President & CEO Read Full Press Release: ndnco.cc/lpprd #FreeLeonardPeltier #NDNCollective

June has come and gone, and as we enter into July, Pride will always be in our heart, spirit, and mind. As the posts begin to ease down, NDN Collective remains resilient and will continue to uplift, advocate, and be an accomplice for our 2SLGBTQIA+ relatives. 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️🪶 It is our collective responsibility to remain vigilant and conscious to protect and defend our Queer relatives, and to commit beyond "Pride Month" by withdrawing from only acknowledging our Queer relatives once a year. 🗣️ Our Indigenous Queer relatives hold a crucial role in providing harmony, balance, and interconnection in our communities. Our Queer relatives support and hold our communities together. They are moderators and peacemakers when fem and masc relatives collide, they help mend and strengthen our relationships with love and understanding. “Leonard Peltier represents a time in history in which the resistance movement for Indigenous people in the U.S. and around the world had been revived,” said Nick Tilsen, president and CEO of NDN Collective. “Peltier and the American Indian Movement changed the conditions in which we organize today and have been able to rebuild power. In Peltier’s case, lawmakers had no regard for the US constitution, for civil rights, for human rights. Peltier’s release would be a day of victory for our people – and for him to come back home would be profound.” Tilsen also spoke to how presidential clemency for Peltier is a compelling issue for Native voters ahead of the November election, should the parole outcome not go in Leonard’s favor. “It’s no surprise that Leonard Peltier was arrested here in South Dakota, a state that still has wildly discriminatory laws,” said Sunny Red Bear, Director of Organizing at NDN Collective. “For example, almost 90 percent of women in SD state prison right now are there on drug charges, which are based on archaic ingestion laws that do not exist anywhere else in the US. Native people have solutions to these issues – So the relatives in these jails right now are proof that Leonard’s situation is not an isolated incident but a representation of a wider systematic problem.” In South Dakota, Indigenous Peoples’ make up less than 10% of the population however, we are targeted on such a level that we make up close to 50% of the prisons and jails. The active targeting demands an investigation by the US Department of Justice – we’re calling on you to do your job and take action now! 🎥 Watch our LIVE caravan and freedom rally on YouTube: ndnco.cc/lplivecaravan It’s not too late to take action: ✍️ Write a letter to the Parole Commission: https://lnkd.in/gBR9VNAH 🎨Download and share art graphics from our toolkit: https://lnkd.in/gCfurUEB ✊🏽Host a solidarity call in your city To learn more about our #FreeLeonardPeltier campaign, visit: https://lnkd.in/gjkbzUht 🔗 Links in bio under “Leonard Peltier Campaign”
