The date reminds us that this land was never ceded. On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we REFLECT on the harm that colonization has caused for generations of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples. We HONOUR the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan’s recent acknowledgment of her ignorance about the massacres on the Country where she was raised is a stark indictment of Australia's educational system. This revelation underscores the urgent need for ongoing learning and truth-telling, responsibilities that non-Indigenous Australians must take equal responsibility for. However, we need to go beyond acknowledgment and awareness as well. The Victorian government has fully supported only four of the 46 transformative recommendations from the historic Yoorrook report on justice system reforms, twenty-three others have been accepted only 'in principle.' This ambiguous commitment suggests a potentially long delay in actual implementation. Critical recommendations, such as raising the age of criminal responsibility to 14, have not been accepted. This situation calls for more than just acknowledgment from leaders; it demands substantive action. The Yoorrook report’s recommendations are vital for rectifying long-standing injustices within Victoria's criminal justice system, particularly affecting Indigenous communities. The government’s hesitancy to fully embrace these changes not only stalls progress but also calls into question the depth of its commitment to genuine reform, notwithstanding the reality of fiscal and other pragmatic constraints on implementation. It is imperative that this admission catalyses real change rather than serving as mere political catharsis. The structural implications of addressing this historical legacy are significant, and the time to act on them is now. How can we, as a society, push for a quicker and more comprehensive implementation of the Commission's recommendations? What more can be done to educate both ourselves and the state’s leaders about the history of the Country we call home?

Today, we celebrate the vibrant and diverse communities of Indigenous Tribes across the world. We also call attention to the violence and harm that many Indigenous communities have experienced at the hands of historical and modern-day colonization. The land that we are on is stolen land. Countless broken treaties, false promises, and mass massacres have provided us with the public lands so many of us journey on today. While we can’t go back in time to fix this, there are many things we can do today to pay back the harm done. The first step is knowing whose land you live on, explore on, and journey on. In this video, we show you how you find out this information and, more importantly, what to do with it. Working towards a de-colonization mindset and practice is a life-long journey, and it can start today! Freedom is just one of many competing interests. It's possible to have too much #freedom in a market/country/world. "The shepherd drives the wolf from the sheep's throat, for which the sheep thanks the shepherd as his liberator, while the wolf denounces him for the same act as the destroyer of liberty ... Plainly, the sheep and the wolf are not agreed upon a definition of liberty." -Abraham Lincoln Total #liberty for wolves is death for the sheep. Total liberty of the powerful or privileged is not compatible with the rights to a decent life for the less privileged. I think it's difficult to argue that there shouldn't be shepherds watching over the free market. Yet many (hopeful and current) wolves are asking for exactly that--no oversight. The wolves will watch over themselves = #Monopoly rule. This is the case for #government and regulation. The only question is to what extent?
