🎉 Excited to share a major milestone in my academic journey! 🎓 I have completed my Masters in Education under the mentorship of Dr. Nkhensani Maluleke. Name: Khensani Eunice Sombani Supervisor: Dr. Nkhensani Maluleke Qualification: Masters in Education Abstract of Study: Researchers have focused on the relationship between language of learning and academic achievement. This study examined how the language of learning and teaching (LoLT) impacts Xitsonga-speaking Grade 10 Learners in rural History classrooms in the Mopani district, Limpopo. Using mixed methods, observations, teacher interviews, and a quasi-experiment, the research found that students' LoLT proficiency, resource scarcity, and first language use at home affect academic performance. It further found that Teachers often employ students' first language to aid learning, resulting in improved outcomes compared to English instruction. The study suggests leveraging students' language skills through translanguaging to enhance cognition and academic success. I'm eager to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on language in education and its impact on student success. WHO AM I? As we know, the journey of life never end, it's either you are ascending, descending or stagnant. It is very dangerous to be stagnant in whatever one is doing, so I have refused to be stagnant or retrogress in my quest and passion for language #acquisition, #learning and #teaching Few days ago I ended a free Igbo class/tutorial where we have a student from Georgia Joseph Payton, LHD . It is time, we are ascending the ladder of Igbo language teaching, the #GOAL is to make sure Igbo language is spoken worldwide not just by Nigerians but also by foreigners. In my tutorial classes, I do not just TEACH reading, writing and speaking are all included in our course outline.

Teachers, students, and parents have united to make the best of a difficult situation, showcasing the power of unity in the face of adversity. Teacher : Did you have your bath today ? Pupil : No sir , the last time I had my bath was two days ago, when my mummy said we should prepare for church. Teacher: Why didn’t you have your bath ? Pupil: There was no water sir Teacher : Why didn’t you use rain water from yesterday? Pupil : My mummy used the rain water to cook . This was a dialogue that ensued between a teacher and a pupil at the school where Project TutorED will be launched, which is located in the Kuchingoro IDP camp. Leading Needs-based projects in rural communities continue to expose me to more problems that underprivileged children face, from lack of water, to lack of food to the dilapidated structures that unfortunately they call home, to constant migration due to insurgency, to uncertainty of what the future holds for them. Yesterday was another chance to be in touch with their realities as I spoke with the headmaster in charge of the community school. Stories of the struggles of the children left me in deep thoughts of how much work there is, to be done. Project TutorED might not make all the problems of those kids disappear, but it will be making sure that they have a have a rich Summer School experience where they will be equipped with #digitalskills for this rapidly evolving world, #vocationalskills to survive trying times, #extracurricularactivities to explore their talents and of course Academic lessons because #qualityeducationforall is a must. Fulfillment, Fulfillment is what I feel, leading such an impactful project especially as aligns with Theirworld ‘s goals and vision.

Blast from my past life in Korea! This is a part of a book project I helped my class of kindergarteners make. It was entitled “Our School” where my students visited different places and important people who made our hagwon a great place to be. Making (copying) a book enabled them to practice penmanship and fuse an appreciating for reading and writing at a very early age. It’s never to early to learn to love literacy! This is a very cool example of how over the last  20+ years I have helped students of all ages do project-centered that empower them to use their English in meaningful and motivational ways. I so love this image because it instantly conveyed the sweet playfulness of the kids and the opportunities I had to bring out my inner child too. In fact, a lot of my college level colleagues could believe that I would be at home teaching such young learners… …and the teachers at elementary-level schools such as this couldn’t get over the fact that I taught university students and the undergraduate and postgraduate levels! What they failed to understand is that what really inspires me to teach is the process of learning and helping learners of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds get from where they are to wherever they need or want to go.
