Given our Congress's great difficulty in finding a compromise to keep the US government running, my co-founders Manuel Alan, David A Wishinsky, and I think it is a good time to be launching democracyGPS, our non-profit and non-partisan organization developing new ways to persuade politicians to represent voters better. Our first campaign and survey is on assault weapons: https://democracygps.org. Unlike traditional surveys, this enables voters to add new statements that others can vote on. To help persuade Congress to compromise on guns and on many other topics to come, we will share the common points of agreement with Congress and the press. Why isn’t America working for “everyone”? The answer is simple. “Everyone” isn’t included. Nine people on a city/county council out of 300,000 citizens is NOT “everyone”. One hundred fifty people in state capitols out of 6,000,000 citizens is NOT “everyone”. Five hundred thirty five people in Washington D.C., out of 300,000,000 citizens is NOT “everyone”. The Solution: FOUR GOALS OF THE PROGRAM: Encourage local citizens to identify problems and raise issues. Educate the people and promote discussion and debate. Just 3 important reasons to switch to paper ballots no matter what political party you align with: 💪 1. Paper ballot / hand counted ballots have a chain of custody that can quickly be investigated should there be a discrepancy in counting. 2.
