Field trip time! Our Chicago studio recently visited Harper Court Phase 2, a project we’re partnered on with Elkus Manfredi Architects and Interactive Design Architects. It’s always great to get out of the office and see our projects in progress. Having worked on Phase 1, we are honored to be a part of the next phase of development. Power Construction and UJAMAA Construction formed a joint venture and are serving as general contractors for the project. #MoodyNolanChicago #LabDesign

"88% sense of belonging is achieved through campus recreation." — 2024 Big Ten Collegiate Recreation Conference Keynote Speaker Dr. Karlie Intlekofer, Wellness Researcher, Johnson Health Tech North America ------ Our firm loves designing recreation and wellness centers, so we sent members of our team to the 2024 Big Ten Conference. While there, Mason Johnson, AIA, NCARB, WELL AP and Jennifer Rittler, AIA supported our client Michigan State University (MSU) and shared design details for its Student Recreation and Wellness Center, which is currently under construction. They networked with leaders in fitness, facilities and operations management, program implementation, sports management, and more. Now that they’re back, they are eager to meet with you for all of your recreation and wellness needs. Fun facts: Moody Nolan has worked on 10 of the 18 Big Ten campuses. Even more fun: Jennifer and Mason are alums of a Big Ten university. Can you name it? Members of our team took to the streets in support of the annual Stonewall Columbus PRIDE Festival and March in Ohio. This year marks the first time architecture and design were represented and supported in the parade, with our team walking alongside fellow members of AIA Columbus, the International Interior Design Association, and 20,000 other parade participants. Moody Nolan’s Brett Wedding not only designed the AIA Columbus banner used for the march, but also helped found the chapter’s LGBTQIA+ Alliance Group, which is one of 15 Alliance Groups in the United States, and the first of its kind in Ohio. Other team members, including co-founders of the firm’s internal LGBTQIA Employee Resource Group (ERG): Kaleidoscope, also participated in this momentous occasion. Currently, a little more than 20% of Moody Nolan employees identify as members of LGBTQIA+. Stonewall’s annual PRIDE Festival and March serve as the organization’s largest annual fundraiser, securing the funds needed to support the organization’s community programs and annual operations. For 42 years, Stonewall Columbus has served the Central Ohio community to uplift LGBTQ+ identities. The first Columbus Pride march, in 1982, had just around 200 people. These days, the Stonewall Columbus Pride Festival and March "welcomes over 700,000 visitors to Columbus and the Central Ohio region." We’re honored to have had a presence in the march as we strive to make the design community a welcoming space for all. Happy Pride Month! 🏳️🌈 To learn more about Stonewall Columbus, visit: https://lnkd.in/gfgGX28U. #MoodyNolanColumbus #AIAColumbus #StonewallColumbus #LGBTQAdvocacy

While some call it a renovation, one leader connected to the Duke Energy Convention Center is calling it a reinvention of the southwest corner in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio. Having completed the design development phase, we’re excited to report the project is scheduled to break ground in July 2024, targeting a completion date in late 2025. Although the $200 million renovation will add 13,000 square feet of exhibition space, the goal is to “enhance the customer experience, the building’s efficiency, and the aesthetic appeal of both the interior and exterior.” “The priority of that pavilion will be to serve conventions. An outdoor space, as we know from trends, is not a ‘nice to have’ anymore, it’s a ‘need to have.’ Planners want that, the expectation is there for that. We’re offering two of those in the new center, that and the rooftop space outside the junior ballroom.” — Julie Calvert, President and CEO of Visit Cincy. Located in the heart of the Midwest, the center will eventually include an 800-room hotel connected to it, all designed to increase tourism and serve as a boost to the local economy. Our client, Swope Health, was recently awarded $5 million by the City of Kansas to go towards a new 12-acre campus, which will be known as Swope Health Village. These funds are part of an overall $100 million phased development. Swope Health Village is a transformational project that will add housing, healthcare services, behavioral health services, support for seniors, community gardens, and a community center. It aspires to be the State of Missouri’s first purpose-built community, intentionally designed to address health, promote well-being, and reduce health and socioeconomic disparities. We’re working on phase one of the mental health housing units, alongside design project partners Perkins Eastman and HFG Architecture. McCownGordon Construction is the general contractor, with BHC serving as civil engineer and Henderson Engineers providing MEP services. Our team is back from The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Conference on Architecture & Design, so let’s do a quick recap. We joined industry leaders from around the world to network, share knowledge, and find solutions to design a better world. The conference also presented the opportunity for our team from different studios across the country to get some real face time. Hopefully, you caught presentations by Jonathan Moody, Renauld Deandre Mitchell, FAIA, NOMA, LEED AP, NCARB, Joseph Taylor, AIA, NCARB, Melvalean McLemore, AIA, NOMA, LEED AP, and Alexandra Oetzel. We enjoyed meeting you during AIA’s Open Studio Night at our Moody Nolan DC studio. Did you pick up a copy of our monograph or the “Kid Architect Goes to Moody Nolan” book in the conference bookstore? Team members even stopped by to check out Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, an award-winning project we collaborated on with Perkins Eastman 11 years ago. It still looks great. We celebrated the formal induction of Roderic Walton FAIA, NCARB, NOMA and Drew Deering, FAIA into the AIA College of Fellows, bringing our firm total to 12 Fellows. We appreciate the team members who attended and captured photos from the conference: Jon Guldenzopf, Valarie Franklin Hernandez, AIA , NOMA, Mark Bodien, Jennifer Rittler, AIA, JEFF JENO, and GUIDO SEOANES PERLA. It was a whirlwind, to say the least. See you at next year’s conference! #MoodyNolanDC #AIA #AIA24
