As we gear up to celebrate America's independence, let's remember to keep safety at the forefront, especially when handling fireworks and other festivities. According to the https://lnkd.in/gBnwdt7v 2022 Annual Fireworks Report there were 10,200 people treated in the ER for fireworks related injuries, of which 29% were hand related. Here are a few tips to ensure a fun and safe holiday for everyone: • Never allow children to play with or ignite fireworks, including sparklers. • Make sure fireworks are legal in your area before buying or using them. • Keep a fire extinguisher, bucket of water, or a garden hose handy in case of fire or other mishap. • Light fireworks one at a time, then move back quickly. • Never try to re-light or pick up fireworks that have not ignited fully. • Never use fireworks while impaired by alcohol or drugs. For more fireworks safety tips visit: https://lnkd.in/gD9AhpaU Let's make this 4th of July a blast—without any accidents! Celebrate smart, celebrate safe, and have a wonderful Independence Day!"

Stay cool and safe this summer! Remember to follow the Alterman 20% Acclimation rule: gradually increase your workload in the heat over 1–2 weeks to build heat tolerance. Hydration is key, but balance is crucial. Too little can lead to dehydration, while too much can cause overhydration and hyponatremia. Be aware of medical conditions that raise heat stroke risk, such as age-related changes, diseases affecting sweating, medications, and other health issues like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and anxiety disorders. Stay informed, stay safe! #SummerSafetySeries #SummerHeat #HeatAcclimation #Hydration #Acclimation

Last week, we discussed Heat Illness, Heat Stress, and prevention strategies. In week three, we focus on the OSHA/NIOSH App and the Work/Hydrate Cycle. The OSHA/NIOSH Heat Safety Tool app helps plan work with features such as current heat index, risk levels, precautionary recommendations, hourly forecasts, and first aid for heat-related illnesses. Key considerations include the heat index being higher in direct sunlight and the impact of strenuous activity on heat stress. The Work/Hydrate Cycle emphasizes drinking water every 20 minutes, replacing lost electrolytes, taking sufficient rest breaks based on heat and activity levels, and providing cool, shaded rest areas. Proper hydration, rest, and shade are crucial for preventing heat-related health issues. With proper planning, preparation, and the use of the OSHA/NIOSH Heat Index App, you can significantly enhance your chances of success during the upcoming hot summer months. Always remember to stay safe and stay cool! To download the OSHA/NIOSH Heat Index app visit : https://lnkd.in/eG38KEH #SummerSafetySeries #SafetyCoreValue #HeatIndex #HeatSafety #OSHA #NIOSH

Today we are kicking off our Summer Safety Series with 3 key focuses to beat the heat. Learn to recognize dehydration signs like excess thirst, dry mouth, rapid heartbeat, headache, dizziness. OSHA recommends staying hydrated by drinking 8oz of water every 15-20 minutes when it's 80°F or higher! Start your day with 2 cups of water and include hydrating foods like watermelon, cucumbers, and oranges in your diet. Understand heat illness and thermoregulation, which keeps your body cool. Risks of heat illness can include dehydration, obesity, certain medications, alcohol or drug use, inexperience, and heavy clothing. Remember, knowing the signs can save you or your coworker. Follow the hydration guidelines and never ignore what your body is telling you! #SummerSafetySeries #Safety #CoreValue #HeatPreparedness #BeatTheHeat
