🌏✨ London Climate Action Week. ✨ 🌏 Last week, Christine Ozden, our Global Director for Climate Education shared her expertise on a #LCAW24 panel titled 'Empowering Futures: Integrating Inclusion in Climate and Education Systems'. She highlighted three key areas of focus for Cambridge in transforming education and amplifying climate action: 1️⃣ Enhancing Education Quality & Access: Cambridge are committed to delivering high-quality education across all subjects, including climate science. Our aim is to ensure a coherent, evidence-based curriculum that drives real progress and recognition. 2️⃣ Boosting Preparedness for Emergencies: With over 40 million children affected by climate disasters annually, our focus must be on building resilient education systems. From working with the government of Pakistan on distance learning standards to integrating emergency preparedness into education, we're creating adaptive, future-ready systems. 3️⃣ Developing Comprehensive Climate Education: Collaborating with governments worldwide, we integrate climate knowledge into curricula. Our new geography qualifications and the Cambridge Climate Quest in India are designed to provide students with the skills to drive sustainable futures. Education can be a catalyst for change. And the expert panel including Daljeet Kaur, Ellen Bomasang, Jessica Cook, Howa Avan-Nomayo, Nicole Ngeow, Michelle Sandall, and Heather Saunders discussed international, national, and local initiatives which can, and are foster climate resilience and transform education systems. Transforming societies through education is vital if we are to achieve the UN’s sustainable development goals. And there’s a widespread consensus across the education sector on the need for change. However, the journey from vision to reality is filled with challenges. Successful implementation requires adequate funding, the need for detailed problem analysis, effective action sequencing, and accountability. But difficult doesn’t mean impossible. If we put teachers at the heart of education transformation, if we listen to the experiences of peers and create trusting partnerships, we can deliver inclusive, quality education and a more prosperous future for all. World Refugee Day is all about refugees’ rights - and that includes the right to higher education. Only 7% of refugee youth have access to higher education (compared to a global average of 42%). One of the big barriers is effectively evidencing refugee and displaced young people’s knowledge and skills. Alsama Project's new G12++ exam seeks to address this head on with a qualification fit for refugees’ context and futures, and the universities seeking to admit them. Over the next few months, we'll be working with the team to strengthen the exam. It was a pleasure to host such a fascinating panel discussion yesterday to mark the launch of 'Reimagining Philanthropy in the Global South: From Analysis to Action in a post-Covid World,' published by Cambridge University Press and co-edited by Clare Woodcraft, Kamal Munir and Dr Nitya Mohan Khemka. Authored by practitioners from the Global South, including Prakash Fernandes and J. Satrijo Tanudjojo, the book highlights developments through specific case studies. Some of the top themes include: - More unrestricted funding - Greater peer to peer collaboration - Enhanced trust and early collaboration with governments - A strong focus on resilience Throughout, the panelists emphasised the vital role philanthropy plays in enabling innovation to support governments, especially when it comes to realising the SDGs. A huge thanks to our esteemed speakers, and to all who joined us. The book is available open access, and we encourage you to explore the insights directly by accessing it here: https://lnkd.in/eq5AThFp #Philanthropy #Education Tracey Ridealgh Anna Kingsley

One small thing and one big thing, that have left me smiling on the train home: Big thing first - Cambridge Partnership for Education was privileged enough to host a panel discussion to mark the launch of ‘Reimagining Philanthropy in the Global South: From Analysis to Action in a Post-COVID World’. Published by Cambridge University Press and co-edited by colleagues from the Cambridge Judge Business School, it’s written by Global South practitioners and focuses on case studies of how the pandemic drove a new level of innovation, a greater focus on resilience and a commitment to peer collaboration and learning in effective philanthropy. It provides deep insights into the uniqueness of philanthropy in the Global South, the potential of this “risk capital” in accelerating the SDGs, and examples of how philanthropy can catalyse new thinking in education. With a keynote from Kamal Munir and a panel made up of Clare Woodcraft , Prakash Fernandes, J. Satrijo Tanudjojo and expertly moderated by Dr Nitya Mohan Khemka, it was always going to be a fascinating event, but the calibre of the audience and the Q and A, too, was just fantastic. Hats off to Mandy Hill and team for making this book open access online so it can have as far as reach as possible. You can download it here https://lnkd.in/eEfhX4hp Small (but also big) thing - our new in-country manager for Australia, Donna Cook, is visiting, and she gave me this kangaroo pin - not just because kangaroos are a symbol of the country, but because they are physically incapable of moving backwards and can only move forwards. I think I have found a new Spirit Animal and will endeavour to Be More Kangaroo. Huge thanks to the ever-awesome Anna Kingsley and Tracey Ridealgh for making great things happen today.
