But global estimates show that the share of youth not in employment, education or training rose to 23.3 per cent in 2020. We must ensure young people have the skills they need to find their place in society and to tackle the ever-evolving challenges of tomorrow. And to do this, we must involve young people in every stage of education transformation. Their insights, experiences, and perspectives are crucial for creating systems that are effective, inclusive and truly serve their needs and aspirations. New research from Dr Nomisha Kurian of the University of Cambridge provides a 28-item framework to help companies, teachers, school leaders, parents, developers, and policy actors think systematically about how to keep younger users safe when they “talk" to AI chatbots. 🌏✨ London Climate Action Week. ✨ 🌏 Last week, Christine Ozden, our Global Director for Climate Education shared her expertise on a #LCAW24 panel titled 'Empowering Futures: Integrating Inclusion in Climate and Education Systems'. She highlighted three key areas of focus for Cambridge in transforming education and amplifying climate action: 1️⃣ Enhancing Education Quality & Access: Cambridge are committed to delivering high-quality education across all subjects, including climate science. Our aim is to ensure a coherent, evidence-based curriculum that drives real progress and recognition. 2️⃣ Boosting Preparedness for Emergencies: With over 40 million children affected by climate disasters annually, our focus must be on building resilient education systems. From working with the government of Pakistan on distance learning standards to integrating emergency preparedness into education, we're creating adaptive, future-ready systems. 3️⃣ Developing Comprehensive Climate Education: Collaborating with governments worldwide, we integrate climate knowledge into curricula. Our new geography qualifications and the Cambridge Climate Quest in India are designed to provide students with the skills to drive sustainable futures. Education can be a catalyst for change. Transforming societies through education is vital if we are to achieve the UN’s sustainable development goals. And there’s a widespread consensus across the education sector on the need for change. However, the journey from vision to reality is filled with challenges. Successful implementation requires adequate funding, the need for detailed problem analysis, effective action sequencing, and accountability. But difficult doesn’t mean impossible. If we put teachers at the heart of education transformation, if we listen to the experiences of peers and create trusting partnerships, we can deliver inclusive, quality education and a more prosperous future for all.
