NEW DELHI: In the Mathurapur constituency of West Bengal, Bapi Haldar from the All India Trinamool Congress emerged victorious with 755,731 votes, securing a lead of 201,057 votes over the runner-up, Ashok Purkait from the Bharatiya Janata Party, who obtained 554,674 votes.
Ajay Kumar Das from the All India Secular Front finished third with 87,606 votes, trailing the winner by 668,125 votes.
Dr. Sarat Chandra Halder from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) secured the fourth position with 61,100 votes, falling short by 694,631 votes.
Two independent candidates named Bapi Halder received 8,934 and 5,626 votes, respectively, while Biswanath Sardar from the Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) obtained 4,534 votes. Pankaj Kumar Halder from the Bahujan Samaj Party secured 4,257 votes.
Ashoke Sardar and Ashoke Purokait, both independent candidates, received 1,501 votes each. Bappa Das from the Party for Democratic Socialism and Rudra Prasad Mandal from the Mulnibasi Party of India obtained 1,209 and 720 votes, respectively.
The "None of the Above" (NOTA) option received 8,631 votes.
Situated in the South East Bengal region within West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district, Mathurapur is a Lok Sabha constituency with a rural classification and a reservation status for Scheduled Castes. Its historical significance is deeply rooted in movements like the Tebhaga farmers' movement, reflecting a legacy of grassroots activism and social mobilization.
