Jamshedpur: Appointment of 17 shortlisted assistant professors of history at the Kolhan University (KU) has been pending for the past six months, reportedly awaiting approval from the Raj Bhavan.
On March 11 this year, the selected candidates wrote a letter to Governor C P Radhakrishnan, requesting him to process the joining procedure. The Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) issued an advertisement, dating 4/2018, to announce 17 vacancies for assistant professors in 2018.
The interviews for the qualified candidates were held in October 2023, and the results were declared on October 31, 2023.
One of the 17 selected candidates, Sweekriti, said, “KU completed the document verification process in December 2023 and sent the appointment files to the Governor’s office for approval after the university committee's nod in February 2024.”
However, the Governor’s office halted the processing of the files due to the enforcement of the model code of conduct (MCC) for the recently held Lok Sabha elections. Registrar of KU, Rajendra Bharati, said the varsity officials have pursued the matter with the officials concerned and are expecting approval soon.
Out of 795 sanctioned positions in 20 constituent colleges of the university, only 225 positions are filled. Moreover, in post-graduate departments, there are only 33 permanent teachers out of the required 162 across 23 departments.
