Pune: NCP (SCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Monday said that power had gone to the head of ‘some’ leaders in Delhi but Lok Sabha results have brought them back to the ground. Pawar claimed that the results in the upcoming assembly poll in
Maharashtra would favour MVA.
Pawar was addressing a farmers’ rally in Sangli district on Monday. Criticising Prime Minister Modi, Pawar said, “Modi was making baseless statements.
During the campaign, he was confident of winning 400 seats. He kept criticising Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and targeted Rahul Gandhi who is meeting common people to understand their issues. However, the LS poll results brought these leaders in Delhi back on the ground.”
Pawar’s party fought 10 seats in Maharashtra and won eight. “Voters helped MVA win 31 of the 48 seats. The same results will be replicated in the assembly election a few months away,” he added.
He said that the state govt should have helped sugar mills in drought-affected areas and not those which have a strong backing.
“While taking an oath in the governor’s house, ministers promise to not take biased decisions while in power. However, the recent decisions (loan to 13 sugar mills) taken by Eknath Shinde’s ministers show that they have not followed their oath. If govt was serious, it should have helped weaker mills,” Pawar said.
Modi had referred to Pawar as “bhatakti aatma” in one of his campaign speeches in Pune. The NCP (SCP) chief had retorted with being a restless soul seeking to alleviate the pain of distressed farmers and citizens struggling to cope with high inflation. State NCP (SCP) president Jayant Patil had said that Modi would realise the outcome of mocking “Maharashtracha aatma” (soul of Maharashtra) on counting day.
