Pune: State govt allowed Maharashtra State Examination Council to conduct Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) through offline mode in March, but the exam was delayed due to the code of conduct for the Lok Sabha election.
The council has still not announced any plans for the exam leaving candidates worried as the aseembly election in October will hamper the schedule if there is a further delay.
Candidates have written to the council to release the schedule and conduct the exam at the earliest. The possibility of an online exam has been ruled out by state govt following the TET scam in the past.
Director of the exam council Nandkumar Bedse said, “We were planning to conduct the exam online, but it was not possible due to technical problems. We have taken permission from state govt to conduct the exam offline. The code of conduct was announced and we could not start the tender process, but it will begin soon. The dates will be announced.”
The council had decided to conduct online exams to eliminate malpractices. Nandesh Chavan, an aspiring teacher, said, “We have been waiting for 18 months for the exam. We don’t even know tentative dates and moreover the assembly election are coming up so it will best to finish of with the exams as early as possible.”
A TOI report said, deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis in December 2022 announced a high-level probe into the TET scam . He had said that many high-ranking officials from Mantralaya were allegedly involved in the scam which took place during the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) govt regime.
