Nagpur: The auditorium of the Nagpur Zilla Parishad in Civil Lines echoed with intellectual thoughts during the Youth Parliament organised on Sunday.
The event, organised by Euphoria, a club by the students of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar College of Law, focused on the topics, ‘Finding equilibrium between cementing roads and protecting nature’, and ‘Analyzing Covid management’.
The mock parliament session began with a debate that saw some strong argumants and a walkout by the opposition. The first session focussing on the topic of balancing road construction and nature conservation turned intense, resulting in the suspension of the leader of the opposition and the home minister by the speakers, Shreyash Kumbhalkar and Raunak Katre, respectively.
In the second session, the opposition criticised the ruling party’s handling of the Covid pandemic, while the govt defended its actions.
During Zero Hour, both parties suggested topics for discussion; the speaker selected two topics, the situation in Manipur and the NEET scam. The parliament concluded with speeches, presentation of awards, and a vote of thanks by Ishwari Sukey.
Lawyer Shreerang Bhandarkar was the chief guest while Shreyash Kumbhalkar and Raunak Karte were the speakers. The best parliamentarian award was given to Sampan Pandey. The best speaker award was presented to Devrat Manek from the ruling party and Rudraksha Vora from the opposition. Sharuya Jaiswal, Faizal Hasham, Saumya Bansal, Shivam Shukla, and Aman Bhandarkar received special mentions.
The event was held under the guidance of ZP CEO Saumya Sharma.
