Girls trap Chhattisgarh shelter home wardens & flee, caught in Nagpur

NAGPUR: Three juvenile girls, including two facing murder charges, made a daring escape from a govt shelter home in Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon on Friday and rode 250km on a stolen scooter before being intercepted by police in Maharashtra's Nagpur on Saturday.
They escaped from the shelter home after triggering a false fire alarm and trapping the wardens in a bathroom where they had smeared oil on the floor to ensure they would slip.After locking the wardens in the bathroom, they fled with a scooter, a purse, and two mobile phones. One of them went to her boyfriend's house and took some cash and a cellphone from him.
Riding on the stolen scooter without a number plate, the minors crossed the state border after an overnight trip. Addicted to alcohol, they stopped at a roadside dhaba to drink liquor before resuming their journey via Deori in Gondia and crossed Bhandara to reach Nagpur, police said.
When they were stopped at Nagpur's Wardhaman Nagar Chowk for traffic violations, including not wearing helmets, they attempted to bribe traffic cops. However, head constable Vaishali Durugkar and constable Pooja Puri became suspicious.
Puri and Durugkar noted inconsistencies in the girls' statements. They took them to traffic office at Lakadganj and handed them over to senior inspector Santosh Vairagade. During separate interrogations, the girls confessed.
