Kolkata: Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee asked chief secretary BP Gopalika on Monday to speak to railway authorities so that Trinamool supporters from north
Bengal could attend the July 21 rally easily.
The CM said that TMC was ready to pay for additional trains to ferry party supporters to Kolkata.
Banerjee said that party supporters would be heading for the Esplanade rally site from July 18 and a huge turnout is expected this year too.
The Indian Railways had already been approached but it was unwilling to arrange for special trains, she said. “If they give trains, we will pay the fare. I am ready to pay, you arrange for special trains,” she said. The CM — also a former railways minister — said that it was the duty of the railways to transport people if there is a huge congregation at any place.
Banerjee said it was difficult to bring in people from north Bengal in buses.
