HYDERABAD: A Congress leader and former sarpanch, S Devender Rao, 40, was found murdered in Burahanpalle village in Warangal district on Monday. Police suspect land issues could be the motive behind the murder. Rao had joined Congress just before the LS elections.
Police said there was a dispute between Rao and another person, P Mallesh, over a six-acre land in their village.
In this connection, Rao was arrested for attacking Mallesh six months ago and was sent to jail too. He came out of jail later.
Meanwhile, Rao’s wife left for US to be with their daughter and he was alone. Taking advantage of it, the suspects could have killed him, cops said. A murder case was registered at the Raiparthy PS and a hunt was on to nab the suspects, senior police officers said. tnn
