HYDERABAD: The people caught using drugs at the electronic dance music (EDM) event at ‘The Cave’ pub in Raidurgam on Saturday night were aware of the planned programme for almost a week through close-knit informal groups, cops said. Some of them had brought drugs for the event from Bengaluru, cops said.
On Saturday, the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGANB) along with Cyberabad cops had raided the pub and caught 24 people – including MNC employees and DJs – for consumption of cocaine, MDMA, meth and ganja
“The nabbed DJ, who is from Bengaluru, had brought the drugs along with him to Hyderabad.
He tested positive for cocaine and ganja. The others who tested positive for ganja had bought it from their sources in Hyderabad,” a TGANB cop said, adding that they had leads on suppliers.
A police source said, “EDM events are mostly not advertised and information is shared among specific groups. Such events happen once in a while and we raid them whenever we come to know about them.”
“We have decided to write letters to the authorities of revenue department and GHMC to wind up such businesses. This move will be implemented at The Cave pub since 24 persons including DJs and managers tested positive,” a cop said. Police are probing if DJs have shared drugs with other accused through middlemen. The nabbed 24 drug abusers were arrested and released after serving them notice. They will be sent to deaddiction centre after calling their family members.
