GURUGRAM: A 7-year-old boy died, and his 9-year-old brother suffered severe injuries after allegedly being beaten by their mother's live-in partner, according to police reports.
The accused, identified as Vinit Chaudhary, hails from Bijnor in
Uttar Pradesh and is employed in a private company in Gurugram, police said.
According to reports, Manu (9), Preet (7), and their mother had been residing with Vinit in Rajender Park for the past few months following the demise of the woman's husband in 2023.
The victim's grandfather informed the police that Vinit frequently assaulted the boys when their mother was not present. On Sunday, Vinit allegedly thrashed Manu and Preet while their mother was away from home.
According to the complainant, the children were immediately taken to the hospital, where his daughter-in-law notified him about the incident. By the time he arrived, Preet had succumbed to his injuries, and Manu was receiving medical treatment, police reported.
Following the grandfather's complaint, an FIR was filed, and the accused was apprehended on Monday, police confirmed news agency PTI.
"The accused confessed to the crime. He will be produced in a city court on Tuesday", the Gurugram police spokesperson said.
