Dehradun: State govt signed an MoU with Sri Sri Rural Development Project (SSRDP) to power 30 schools in remote areas using solar energy. These schools are currently being identified and focus is on institutions in Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh, and Champawat districts.
“SSRDP is already contributing in some schools, and recently we entered into an agreement with them to enhance teaching and learning methodologies, with a special focus on providing innovative services to children of rural border areas,” said Durgesh Pant, director general of
Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST).
These schools will function with solar power systems, and students will be taught about energy conservation, among various other science-intensive courses to instill a scientific temperament, according to officials.
Through this initiative, authorities aim to introduce new dimensions to existing teaching and enable experiential learning.
By installing solar panels and modern classrooms, energy needs will be addressed, and these schools will play a key role in reversing migration trends from the hills. Solar panels in remote hills will help rural communities thrive locally, according to SSRDP and state authorities.
