ROORKEE: Seven people were arrested on Sunday after a student's house in Jhabreda was attacked with gunfire by his classmate. Four suspects remain at large.
Police said that on Thursday night, Shivansh Panwar, a Class XII student, opened fire at his classmate Abhinav Kumar's house over an Instagram comment, causing panic. Shivansh called on some peers for support.
Two country-made pistols and four live cartridges were recovered from the arrested suspects.
Both students, members of a social media group called "Mahakma," posted reels of their illegal stunts. An offensive comment by Abhinav on one of Shivansh's reels led to the attack on July 5. The police recovered seven used cartridges from the spot and reviewed approximately 100 videos to identify the culprits.
The arrested persons, including Shivansh, Avneesh, Lucky, Pankaj, Neeshu, Rohit Saini, and Aman Kumar, face charges of attempted murder, creating panic, and rioting.
SO Ankur Sharma said, "We deployed several teams to arrest the remaining accused, who will be arrested soon.”
