South African woman held with 1kg cocaine at Chennai airport

A South African national, Fredelin April, was arrested at Chennai airport with 1kg of cocaine worth '10 crore. She was intercepted by customs and NCB officials and is suspected of planning to distribute the drugs to dealers in Delhi and Mumbai. April has been remanded in judicial custody.

CHENNAI: Customs officers at Chennai airport and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) sleuths in a joint operation arrested a South African national with one kg of cocaine worth '10 crore.
Based on information, sleuths intercepted Fredelin April, 54, when she landed here from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Her baggage was checked. Officers detected a false bottom in her handbag.
It was torn open, and a white powdery substance was found hidden underneath in silver-coloured sheets. Chemical analysis confirmed it to be cocaine.
Investigation revealed that she was about to hand over the consignment to drug dealers from Delhi and Mumbai for further distribution.
NCB officers said April had visited Delhi a few months ago on the pretext of medical treatment. She is suspected to have smuggled drugs back then too.
She was remanded in judicial custody on Sunday.
