UT Cong to choose new youth prez
Chandigarh: Rajiv Shukla, general secretary of the All-India Congress Committee (AICC), on Monday announced that the process of organizational elections of Chandigarh Youth Congress to elect a new president and office bearers will begin from July 10. The nominations for different posts at state and district level will be filed, following which new officer bearers will be elected.
Shukla, who was addressing media personnel at Congress Bhawan in Sector 35, stated that Jaspreet Singh of the Indian Youth Congress had been nominated as the election commissioner for Chandigarh, who would oversee the conduct of the election.
The membership drive to enrol new members of the Youth Congress, which acts as a nursery for grooming new leadership in the Congress would commence from July 20.
Lauding the role of the youth in building the nation, Shukla stated that the young people had always been torch bearers of social and economic change in the society. Chandigarh Congress president HS Lucky, who accompanied Shukla, stated that the incumbent president of Chandigarh Youth Congress would continue on his post alongwith other office bearers till election process was completed.
