Chandigarh:
Punjab’s leader of opposition Partap Singh Bajwa on Monday claimed that chief minister Bhagwant Mann had exposed his Aam Aadmi Party govt’s “anti-farmer face” by failing to procure moong (green gram) for the minimum support price (MSP) after recommending the crop.
Bajwa said the state govt was yet to purchase moong dal crop this year, which more than 99% of the purchase in the previous year was below the central govt’s recommended MSP or Rs 8,555 a quintal.
He said: “In 2022, Mann persuaded the farmers to sow moong for crop diversification, and has now forced them to sell it for below MSP for the third consecutive season. He made not a single effort to bail them out of this distress sale.”
The LoP said there had been distress sale of 85% of the crop in 2022 and 83% in 2023. He said: “The CM, who camped with his cabinet in Jalandhar West, should know he is head of the entire state and not just one seat.” tnn
