Temple towns in Gujarat dominate tourist footfall in May
Gandhinagar: In May this year, the temple towns of Dwarka, Somnath, Ambaji and Pavagadh emerged as the prime attractions for tourists in Gujarat, accounting for a significant 72% of all visitors to the state’s top 11 destinations.
Official data reveals that Dwarka temple saw the most notable surge in tourist numbers compared to the previous month.
Out of the total 48.40 lakh tourists visiting attractions such as Kankaria Lake, Statue of Unity, Atal Bridge, Science City, Gir and Devaliya Safari, Vadnagar, and the Sabarmati Riverfront, a staggering 34.88 lakh tourists flocked to these four temple towns.

Dwarka led the pack with 11.03 lakh visitors, closely followed by Ambaji with 9.27 lakh, and Somnath with 9.25 lakh visitors. Pavagadh drew 5.33 lakh tourists during the same period. The Dwarka temple recorded a remarkable 109.2% increase in tourist footfall in May compared to April, doubling the number of visitors to this renowned religious site.
Similarly, Somnath experienced a significant 63.7% rise in tourist arrivals during the same period. tnn
