It's a big week for InvestNZ – hosting #TeWakaHourua2.0 and activating the Active Investor Plus (AIP) Programme in the Bay Area. The New Zealand government aims to boost prosperity for all New Zealanders with a key focus on the economy by #doublingexports and #enhancingproductivity for New Zealand businesses. To achieve this, they recognise the importance of robust capital markets and engaging with international markets. Te Waka Hourua 2.0 focuses on New Zealand’s venture growth funds, aiming to provide global insights, case studies and US connections to support the success of portfolio companies. Last week we shared some exciting news about Auckland getting a new Surf Park and we want to share why this is so significant to New Zealand. Auckland Surf Park, championed by Adrian "Ace" Buchan and Sir John Kirwan will be Aotearoa’s first, set among the North Island’s pristine landscape.  Aventuur’s vision is to deliver a truly unique surf park that is reflective of Aotearoa culture and the local rural aesthetic, is developed and operated sustainably, and contributes to individual health and collective wellbeing. With a significant focus on sustainability, the master planned community includes a co-located Spark New Zealand data centre and 7-hectare solar farm. Notably, excess heat from Spark's data centre (planned to be powered by renewable energy, including on-site generation from the solar farm) will be harnessed to warm the surfing lagoon year-round – a world-first. Dylan Lawrence, General Manager of Invest New Zealand says: “Projects such as this one has a hugely positive impact on Aotearoa, generating over 400 jobs during construction and 120 full-time equivalent positions once operational, the Auckland Surf Park is poised to inject over $600 million into the local economy over its lifespan.   Through attracting offshore investments to Aotearoa, we are not only fostering economic growth but also enhancing our global presence in the tourism sector.  This initiative stands as a testament to New Zealand's commitment to sustainable economic development and our unwavering dedication to fostering prosperity in our communities.” Congratulations Aventuur on such an exciting project.   Auckland Council Tātaki Auckland Unlimited #surfpark #sustainabledevelopments

Mānawatia a Matariki — Happy Māori New Year to our global family. The Matariki star cluster has many names around the world and has significance in many cultures. It is most commonly known as the Pleiades or the Seven Sisters, which comes from the Greek myth about the seven daughters of Atlas and Pleione who were turned into a flock of doves and cast into the sky. The three major principles that guide Matariki are: 💖 Remembrance — honouring those who have died since the last rising of Matariki 👪 Celebrating the present — gathering together with family and friends 🎑 Looking to the future — looking forward to the promise of a new year. Matariki is also underpinned by key values, most significantly: aroha — love and respect for one another whakamaharatanga — remembrance kotahitanga — unity manaakitanga — caring tohatoha — sharing mana taiao — environmental awareness hākari — feasting wānanga — discussion noho tahi — coming together atawhaitanga — kindness whakanui — celebrations tuakiritanga — identity. We look forward to working together with you all in this upcoming year.

We’re delighted to announce that we’ve received resource consent for our Auckland Surf Park. Located in Dairy Flat, New Zealand’s first surf park will provide world-class sport, recreation, hospitality and tourism amenities that celebrate Aotearoa, its surfing heritage and culture, and the area’s rural character. With a significant focus on sustainability, the masterplanned community includes a co-located Spark New Zealand data centre and 7-hectare solar farm. Notably, excess heat from Spark's data centre (planned to be powered by renewable energy, including on-site generation from the solar farm) will be harnessed to warm the surfing lagoon year-round – a world-first. We’re thankful for all the support we’ve received to date, including from leading organisations and athletes who believe in the surf park’s potential to enhance wellbeing, and deliver an iconic destination for locals, Kiwi surfers and visitors to New Zealand. Subject to further regulatory approvals being received, construction is expected to commence in late 2024, ahead of opening to the public in 2027. To learn more, visit https://www.aventuur.com. Investment Manager Alex Bunce, hosted a Data Centre study tour, connecting New Zealand companies with the off-shore data centre industry in Singapore and Sydney. Study tours are an important part of the work Invest New Zealand does, supporting the growth and development of key sectors, enabling connections, exploring new markets, understanding New Zealand's unique value proposition in these markets and learn from those at the heart of the industry we are supporting. Presently, the globe grapples with an energy dilemma spurred by heightened demand due to post -pandemic economic resurgence, the push for electrification, and sustainability imperatives. New Zealand has advanced digital infrastructure that supports technology adoption and day to day business operations. Our abundant renewable energy supply, stable business and political environment, and growing digital economy is enticing major cloud providers such as Microsoft, Amazon Web Services and Google to establish large-scale data centres here. NZ ranks in the top 20 countries worldwide for network coverage, 5G deployment and internet speeds. New Zealand’s favourable climate conditions and access to sustainable energy places the country in a strong export position to service demand from Asia Pacific, particularly from Singapore and Australia. Did you know NZ is 1 of 14 countries outside the EU to receive an adequacy decision in relation to providing adequate levels of data protection. An adequacy decision is that personal data can flow from the EU and the European Economic Area countries without any further safeguard being necessary. We also have a strong digital skills pipeline with over 98,500 people working in the tech sector in NZ. Thank you to the cohort who joined us in representing New Zealand, DatacomDatagrid New Zealand, Simply Energy, your participation, enthusiasm, and knowledge were instrumental in making this a success. The Invest New Zealand team that helped deliver this study tour, Lee Cyn Li, Angela Traill and Alex Bunce are here to discuss opportunities for investment into New Zealand data centers, you can learn more here https://lnkd.in/gscwZ8uc.
