🐟 Back in June, we reached a significant milestone with the release of shortjaw kōkopu into streams feeding the Upper Huia Reservoir, in the Waitākere Ranges. This conservation project to create a secure future for New Zealand’s rarest whitebait species is getting a helping hand to increase the fish presence in the wild. Planning, Environment and Parks Committee Chair Councillor Richard Hills and our Senior Regional Freshwater Advisor Matthew Bloxham explain in the video below the implications of such a big project, which has been many years in the planning ⬇️ The project will be monitored for several years to assess how well the species take to their new home and whether the fish are reproducing above the reservoir. 👏 This is a great example of collaborative conservation work between Manāki Whitebait, Watercare Services Limited, Te Kawerau ā Maki, NIWA and us. ℹ️ Find out more: https://lnkd.in/gWr5bmfu #ourakl #shortjawkokopu #whitebait

👏 What a great example of collaboration and ingenuity behind the sensorial experience that is Waimahara. This artwork is the first of its kind; unique to Tāmaki Makaurau and the world. 🎤 If you sing a special waiata, it listens and responds, accompanying you with an awe-inspiring display of light and sound. 🤝 Our Public Art team worked with artist Graham Tipene, technology specialists IION and a composer team who have crafted two original waiata for it. 📍 Waimahara can be found at the Mayoral Drive end of Myers Park. ℹ️ Find out more about this incredible project: https://lnkd.in/gtYKysp7 🎥 The Hood and Co #ourakl #auckland #publicart
