Ken Gray has a lifelong passion for serving his community. First and foremost he is a husband, father and veteran. He has always invested his time and resources into ensuring a better future for us, and generations to come. Ken has dedicated his life to fighting for the American way of life. Through his 26 years of service to our country in the United States Air Force, Ken achieved the highest enlisted rank attainable, Chief Master Sergeant. He had numerous deployments and overseas assignments. Upon his retirement from the military, he devoted himself full-time in various capacities to helping our veterans get the support they need on a daily basis, and serving the people of Nevada.

Ken has been very active in the community and state since retiring from the Air Force. He has served member of the Nevada Judicial Ethics and Elections Practices Committee, Director on the Carson Water Sub-conservancy District, Commissioner on the Comstock Historic District Commission, Director on the Dayton Valley Conservation District, member of the State Intergovernmental Executive Committee, and as a member of the Nevada Local Justice Reinvestment Coordinating Council. Additionally, during his six-year tenure as a Lyon County Commissioner, he served as the Lyon County representative to the Nevada Association of Counties Public Lands and Natural Resources Committee, and on the Legislative Committee.

Ken has a proven record as a tireless advocate for conservative America First ideals.

  • As a committed Conservative Republican, I staunchly advocate for small government, low taxes, and robust support for business growth. My political philosophy is rooted in the belief that minimal governmental intervention and fiscal responsibility create the most conducive environment for economic prosperity and individual freedom. I am dedicated to advancing policies that encourage entrepreneurial initiatives and reduce regulatory burdens, thereby fostering a thriving business landscape and ensuring that our community remains a place where businesses can flourish and contribute to overall economic health.
  • My second campaign message is clear and straightforward: I am firmly pro-life. I stand unapologetically in support of life at every stage except in the most extreme and dire circumstances, and I am committed to upholding and advocating for policies that protect the sanctity of life. This core belief guides my approach to legislation and defines my stance on relevant issues, reflecting my dedication to life-affirming principles.
  • I wholeheartedly believe in and steadfastly support the U.S. Constitution, including the Bill of Rights. These foundational documents are essential to safeguarding our freedoms and establishing the principles upon which our nation was built. My commitment to upholding the Constitution reflects my dedication to preserving these rights for every American and ensuring that our government continues to operate within its established legal framework. My guiding principle for my legislative beliefs is, "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

I have a deep interest in public policy areas such as the Judiciary, Health and Human Services, and Taxation, which has led me to actively serve on these respective committees in the Nevada Assembly. My involvement in these committees allows me to directly influence and shape legislation that impacts these critical sectors. Additionally, I have a strong interest in policies related to public lands, agriculture, and tourism—key areas that are essential to our state’s economy and environmental sustainability. My commitment to these fields demonstrates my dedication to fostering comprehensive and balanced growth that benefits all residents.

Honesty and integrity are the most important characteristics for elected officials for several reasons:

1. **Trust**: These qualities help build trust between officials and the public. When officials are honest and act with integrity, citizens are more likely to trust that decisions are made in the public's best interest rather than for personal gain.

2. **Accountability**: Integrity involves adhering to a set of moral or ethical principles. Elected officials who display integrity are more likely to be accountable for their actions, transparent about their decisions, and responsible in their duties.

3. **Effective Governance**: Honest officials are more likely to provide accurate information to the public and other decision-makers, which is essential for effective policy making and governance. Misinformation or dishonesty can lead to poor decisions and policy outcomes.

4. **Public Confidence**: Integrity and honesty in actions and communication can significantly enhance public confidence in the government. This confidence is essential for social stability and for encouraging public engagement in democratic processes.

5. **Prevention of Corruption**: These qualities are critical in preventing corruption, which can undermine the effectiveness of government institutions, decrease economic growth, and erode the quality of life.

In summary, honesty and integrity are foundational to the functioning of a democracy, ensuring that officials act fairly and lawfully, maintain public trust, and serve their constituents effectively.

When considering the qualities that would make me a successful officeholder, I believe that honesty, integrity, and professional leadership are at the forefront. Honesty is essential in maintaining transparency and trust with the public, ensuring that constituents can rely on my word and actions. Integrity guides me to uphold ethical standards and make decisions that are in the best interest of the community, even in the face of challenges or adversity. Professional leadership means leading by example, inspiring others, and fostering a collaborative environment where diverse ideas and solutions can be discussed openly. These qualities not only define my approach to service but also strengthen my ability to effectively represent and advocate for my constituents.

Members of the Nevada Assembly, like those of other state legislatures, have several core responsibilities:

1. **Legislation**: The primary duty is to propose, debate, and vote on laws relevant to the state. This includes everything from budgets and taxes to regulations affecting health, education, and public safety.

2. **Representation**: Assembly members represent the interests and concerns of their constituents. They need to stay informed about the needs and opinions of the people in their district and advocate on their behalf.

3. **Oversight**: They are responsible for overseeing state agencies and programs to ensure they are operating effectively and within the law. This includes reviewing the performance of these agencies and ensuring that they implement laws as intended.

4. **Budgeting**: Assembly members play a critical role in creating and approving the state budget, which involves determining how state revenues should be spent to best serve the public.

5. **Constituent Services**: They assist constituents in navigating state services and address their concerns related to state government. This can involve everything from helping with unemployment benefits to resolving issues with state agencies.

6. **Informing Public Policy**: Members are expected to stay informed on both local and broader issues that could impact their constituents and the state at large. This knowledge helps in shaping effective and relevant policies.

These responsibilities require a deep commitment to public service, as well as a thorough understanding of both the specific needs of their constituents and broader policy issues.

The legacy I aspire to leave is one where my successors, children, and grandchildren find themselves in a better position than when I was first elected. My aim is to contribute to a future where the foundational structures—be it in governance, environmental stewardship, or economic stability—are stronger and more resilient. This means making decisions that not only address immediate concerns but also anticipate future challenges, ensuring that the next generations inherit a community that is thriving, just, and rich with opportunities. Ultimately, I want to be remembered for playing a part in creating a sustainable legacy that enhances the well-being and prosperity of all community members, leaving a tangible, positive impact that endures well beyond my tenure.

My earliest memory of a historical event is the end of the Vietnam War, when I was around five years old. I vividly recall it dominating the nightly news, broadcast on our family's giant console TV. At that time, our house was sparsely furnished, and I distinctly remember lying on the floor alongside my parents and older siblings, all of us absorbed in the news broadcasts each evening. This significant event not only marked an important moment in history but also left a lasting impression on me from a very young age, highlighting the impact of global events on everyday life.

Like many of my peers, my first foray into the workforce was at McDonald's—a common starting point for our generation. I gained invaluable early work experience there before transitioning to a position at Albertsons supermarket. This progression from fast food to retail offered me a diverse set of skills and insights, laying a strong foundation for my work ethic and understanding of customer service.

My favorite book series is "Left Behind" by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins. This series captivates me with its compelling blend of biblical prophecy and speculative fiction, exploring themes of faith, salvation, and the end times through a narrative that is both thrilling and thought-provoking. Each book builds on the last, creating a deeply immersive experience that challenges my perspectives and sparks my imagination. It also served to reenergize my faith in Christ.

Barbaras Rhabarberbar by Bodo Wartke & Marti Fischer

One of the most profound challenges I've encountered has been addressing the impact of addiction within my family. Coping with the addiction struggles of my parents and other relatives has deeply influenced our family dynamics, emotional health, and daily interactions. These experiences have not only taught me resilience and compassion but have also underscored the vital importance of robust support networks and accessible mental health resources. They have significantly shaped my views on public health and social policies, fueling my advocacy for enhanced support systems designed to aid individuals and families grappling with addiction, facilitating their recovery and empowerment.

I consider my ability to manage these addiction issues within my family a personal success. This is evident in the fact that neither my wife, my children, nor I have personally had to confront addiction. I am deeply thankful for this outcome and attribute it to our strong family support system and proactive strategies in understanding and preemptively addressing potential addiction issues. This journey has enriched my understanding of the crucial roles that stability and a supportive environment play in preventing addiction and promoting overall family well-being.

I believe the ideal relationship between the governor and the state assembly should be one of collaborative partnership, where both work together to achieve common goals for the benefit of the state's residents. In this relationship, the governor, as the executive leader, proposes policies and priorities that reflect their administration's vision. Meanwhile, the state assembly, representing the legislative branch, critically evaluates these proposals, offering amendments and alternatives that reflect the diverse interests of their constituents.

Effective communication and mutual respect are key in this dynamic. The governor should be open to legislative input, acknowledging that assembly members are close to the grassroots and often have firsthand understanding of the public's needs. Conversely, the assembly should respect the governor's role in setting the state's strategic direction and managing its execution.

The ideal relationship would also involve a balance of power, where the assembly exercises its role in oversight without being obstructively adversarial, and the governor respects the assembly's legislative prerogatives. Together, we should strive for transparency, accountability, and a focus on serving the public interest, navigating state governance through cooperation rather than conflict.

Over the next decade, the state of Nevada faces several critical challenges that will require strategic planning and innovative solutions to address effectively.

Firstly, the diversification of Nevada's economy remains a paramount issue. Traditionally reliant on gaming and tourism, Nevada has made strides in attracting industries such as technology and renewable energy. Continuing this expansion into new economic sectors is crucial for creating job opportunities, increasing state revenues, and reducing economic vulnerability to fluctuations in tourism and gaming.

Secondly, energy and water issues are of significant concern, particularly given Nevada's arid climate and rapid growth. Energy policies will be vital for meeting the state's power needs while minimizing financial impact. This includes expanding other renewable energy sources like geothermal, which is abundant in Nevada, and improving energy efficiency across all sectors. Equally important is addressing the state's water scarcity challenges through enhanced water management strategies, conservation efforts, reclamation efforts and other potential supply sources.

Finally, managing population growth is another critical challenge. Nevada's population has been growing rapidly, leading to increased demand on infrastructure, public services, and housing. Strategic urban planning within urban areas is essential to accommodate growth without sacrificing quality of life or impacting Nevada’s rural and agricultural areas. This includes investing in transportation, improving access to and quality of healthcare, and improving education.

Addressing these challenges will require coordinated efforts across all levels of government, as well as partnerships with private industry, non-profits, and community groups. By proactively tackling these issues, Nevada can secure a prosperous, sustainable future for all its residents.

Possessing previous experience in government or politics, while not an absolute requirement, can be highly advantageous for those seeking to serve effectively in public office. This background provides a practical understanding of the legislative process, the intricacies of policy-making, and the dynamics of governance, which are crucial for making informed decisions and navigating the complex landscape of public administration.

Individuals with prior government or political experience are likely to have developed a network of contacts that can be instrumental in facilitating the progress of legislation and policy initiatives. These relationships enable them to collaborate more efficiently with fellow lawmakers, bureaucrats, and stakeholders, enhancing their ability to advocate for their constituents' needs and interests.

Moreover, experienced individuals often have a deeper insight into the bureaucratic challenges and regulatory frameworks that govern public projects and initiatives. This knowledge allows them to anticipate potential roadblocks and effectively manage or circumvent them, thereby streamlining processes and achieving objectives more swiftly.

Furthermore, having a background in politics or government helps in understanding the balance and compromise required to achieve legislative success. Experienced officials are typically more adept at negotiating and finding common ground among diverse and often conflicting interests, which is essential for passing effective and equitable legislation.

In summary, while fresh perspectives and diverse backgrounds are invaluable, the practical knowledge and skills gained from previous government or political roles provide a foundational advantage that can lead to more effective and efficient governance. These experiences equip individuals with the tools necessary to perform their duties with a higher degree of competence and confidence, ultimately benefiting the public they serve.

Absolutely, building relationships with other legislators is not only beneficial; it is crucial for several compelling reasons:

1. Effective Legislation: Strong relationships facilitate collaboration and compromise, which are essential for crafting and passing effective legislation. Legislators who maintain good relationships are more likely to find common ground and support each other’s initiatives, leading to more productive legislative sessions.
2. Sharing of Information and Resources: Building networks with peers allows for the sharing of valuable information, insights, and resources. This can enhance a legislator’s understanding of issues, improve their legislative proposals, and increase their overall effectiveness.
3. Influence and Support: Relationships can be pivotal in garnering support for bills and projects. A legislator who is well-connected is more likely to influence others and rally the necessary votes to move legislation forward.
4. Conflict Resolution: Politics often involves navigating complex and sensitive issues. Strong interpersonal relationships can help in managing conflicts more effectively, allowing for smoother legislative processes.
5. Career Longevity and Growth: Positive relationships can contribute to a legislator’s reputation and longevity in office. Being known as someone who is cooperative and easy to work with can also open doors to leadership roles and other opportunities within the legislative body.

In essence, the ability to build and maintain good relationships is a key skill for any successful legislator, directly impacting their ability to serve their constituents effectively and achieve their policy goals.

My primary focus and commitment at this time is to serve the people of my district and state with honor and integrity. I am dedicated to representing their needs and interests in the best way possible. Ensuring that their voices are heard and their concerns are addressed is my top priority, and I am not considering any other political positions at this time. My goal is to make a meaningful difference in the lives of my constituents and to contribute positively to our community.

One of my most deeply impactful experiences involves assisting a young, former army sergeant in receiving his Bronze Star with Valor device—an honor he had rightfully earned but had not been previously awarded. This act not only profoundly impacted his life but also highlighted the critical importance of recognizing and rectifying oversights within our governmental bureaucratic systems. My involvement brought the well-deserved recognition to him, likely restoring his faith in the very institutions that should have acknowledged his valorous service from the outset. Stories like this emphasize the powerful impact that dedicated advocacy and support can have, particularly for veterans who have sacrificed so much for our nation. Such actions not only address personal injustices but also strengthen our broader commitment to honoring and supporting those who have made significant sacrifices, ensuring that their contributions are neither forgotten nor overlooked.

Where do Generals put their Armies….In their sleevies of course.

The legislature plays a crucial role in maintaining a balance of power within the government, particularly in overseeing and regulating the executive branch’s use of emergency powers. These powers, while necessary in times of crisis, must be carefully monitored to prevent overreach and ensure they are used appropriately and effectively. It is essential that the use of such powers does not exceed thirty days without a thorough review by a bipartisan committee of the legislature.

This committee should ensure a fair and balanced assessment of the necessity and scope of the emergency powers being exercised. The review process should include evaluating the reasons for the declaration of emergency, the measures taken under it, and the impact of these measures on the public and on civil liberties.

Instituting such checks and balances not only enhances transparency and accountability but also reinforces democratic governance by involving elected representatives in critical decision-making processes. Moreover, periodic legislative review helps adapt emergency responses to evolving situations, ensuring they remain justified and proportionate to the threat faced.

Ultimately, this structured oversight ensures that emergency powers are not only a tool for effective crisis management but also safeguard against potential misuse, upholding the principles of democracy even in exceptional times.

At this time, I am diligently working on several legislative initiatives aimed at addressing key issues affecting our community. While I am not ready to discuss the specifics of these bills publicly, I am committed to ensuring that each proposal is thoroughly vetted and crafted to meet the needs and concerns of our constituents effectively. I look forward to sharing more details with the community as soon as these proposals are fully developed and ready for introduction.

I am honored to have received endorsements from an array of respected leaders and organizations. These endorsements include Governor Joe Lombardo and Lieutenant Governor Stavros Anthony, demonstrating strong support from within our state's leadership. Additionally, I have the backing of key groups such as the Nevada Firearms Coalition PAC, the Association of General Contractors, the Henderson and Las Vegas Chambers of Commerce. Other significant endorsements come from the Keystone Corporation, Nevada Assembly Republican Caucus, Western Way Action, Public Safety Alliance of Nevada, and the Professional Firefighters of Nevada. Each endorsement reflects a shared commitment to the values and goals that guide my efforts to serve effectively.

The committees I am most passionate about serving on include Judiciary, Health and Human Services, Taxation, and Finance. I am currently an active member of the Judiciary, Health and Human Services, and Taxation committees. My involvement in these committees allows me to directly contribute to shaping impactful legislation in areas that are crucial for our community’s well-being and economic stability. My interest in these areas underscores my commitment to addressing complex issues and working towards sustainable solutions.

I firmly believe that financial transparency and accountability should be fundamental and comprehensive across all levels of government. These principles ensure that every dollar spent is accounted for and that the public remains fully informed about how their tax money is used. Such openness fosters trust between the government and its citizens, encouraging a more engaged and informed electorate.

The necessity for transparency and accountability extends from the smallest municipal budgets to the largest federal expenditures, with the only exception being matters that genuinely pertain to national security. This exception is crucial to safeguard sensitive information that, if disclosed, could potentially jeopardize the safety and security of the nation. However, even in these cases, the rationale for secrecy must be well justified and regularly reviewed to prevent abuse of this exemption.

By adhering to these principles, governments can deter corruption, enhance the effectiveness of public services, and ensure that resources are used efficiently and ethically. Moreover, when citizens see that their government operates openly and with integrity, their trust in public institutions is strengthened, which is vital for the healthy functioning of any democracy.

At this time, I do not support making changes to our current state ballot initiative process. While I acknowledge that the process can be hard and cumbersome, these characteristics are critical in preventing a proliferation of unnecessary constitutional changes. A rigorous process ensures that any amendment or initiative that reaches the ballot has been thoroughly considered and vetted, reflecting a broad spectrum of public opinion and due diligence. It is essential to maintain a balance where citizens have the power to enact change while simultaneously safeguarding our constitution against frequent and potentially hasty alterations. Therefore, maintaining the integrity and robustness of our current system is a priority for me until it is proven otherwise to me that change is necessary.

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
