Candidate Connection

David Orentlicher participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on May 16, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and David Orentlicher's responses follow below.[7]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

Improving public education
Reducing health care costs
Ensuring that all workers can earn a living wage[8][9]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

Education--a strong education is the foundation for success in life.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[9]

2016

The following issues were listed on Orentlicher's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Good Jobs with Good Pay: Close the tax loopholes that lead corporations to shelter their profits overseas rather than investing their profits at home to create good new jobs.
  • First-Class K-12 Education: A strong education provides the foundation for a successful life. We must ensure that all of our children can build the foundation they need.
  • Health Care Reform: The Affordable Care Act has done much to improve access to health care for millions of Americans—especially those with low incomes or who have heart disease, cancer or other “preexisting conditions.” But there still is more to be done. As a doctor, David O knows that just because you have insurance doesn’t mean you can afford to pay for medical care. Premiums, co-payments, and deductibles are still too high.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Nevada

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.

Click here for an overview of legislative scorecards in all 50 states.  To contribute to the list of Nevada scorecards, email suggestions to editor@ballotpedia.org.
