Starting Monday, July 8, the TTC is modifying the path for buses along the 510 Spadina bus route, it says, “to improve reliability while navigating afternoon gridlock and congestion on the south end of the route.”

From 3 until 7 p.m., Mondays to Fridays only, the buses no longer operate along Lower Spadina Avenue between Front Street West and Queens Quay West. During these hours, buses instead turn left along Front West and then right along Blue Jays Way, looping around back to Lower Spadina to return northward to Spadina Station. The TTC is not providing route 510 service during these hours at stops on Lower Spadina at Fort York Boulevard / Bremner Boulevard and Queens Quay West.

According to a TTC news release, “This change is the result of on-going monitoring of the route since June 23 when buses replaced streetcars to accommodate essential infrastructure work. In the first week of this planned six-month service change, the TTC has seen southbound afternoon travel times triple to more than an hour from approximately 20-25 minutes at other times of day. Buses running south of Front St. are getting caught in congestion and gridlock as motorists attempt to get on the Gardiner Expressway.”

During the afternoon rush hours, southbound bus operators will announce the turn, allowing passengers to exit the bus and continue their journey southward on foot, if they can. Supervisors will be on site at southbound stops on Spadina / Lower at King and Front Streets West for passengers with mobility needs or anyone with strollers, packages or large bags, needing helpto travel south of Front. In these cases, the supervisor will relay a message to another southbound bus advising of an accommodation requirement. With buses running every two to three minutes at this time of day, the TTC says, “We believe that in most cases [passengers] getting off a turning bus will only be waiting approximately 10 minutes for service.”

The TTC is installing two new bus stops to accommodate the rush-hour short-turn:

  • on the south side of Front Street West east of Lower Spadina Avenue for passengers exiting southbound buses; and
  • on the north side of Blue Jays Way east of Lower Spadina for passengers boarding northbound buses.

For help during afternoon rush hours, while buses don’t operate to and from Queens Quay, ask TTC customer service representatives or other TTC employees for help or directions at:

  • Spadina Avenue and King Street West;
  • Spadina Avenue / Lower Spadina Avenue and Front Street West;
  • Lower Spadina Avenue and Blue Jays Way; and
  • Lower Spadina Avenue and Fort York Boulevard / Bremner Boulevard.

The news release further explains:

“The TTC continues to monitor route performance and is looking at other possible improvements and modifications.

“The TTC and City of Toronto are working together to explore additional longer-term measures to reduce congestion and enhance transit priority and cyclist safety [on] Spadina Avenue. Subject to City Council approval, additional measures will be implemented in late July.

“The City has already deployed Traffic Agents at key intersections along the 510 Spadina route from Monday to Friday between noon and 7 p.m. to assist with traffic flows and will adjust traffic signals as needed to support buses to make turns along the diverted route while the TTC operates modified bus replacement service. The City is proactively monitoring traffic on Spadina Avenue and surrounding streets and will make additional adjustments as necessary.”

The TTC has replaced streetcars along the 510 Spadina route since Sunday, June 23.

Metrolinx and its contractors continue upgrading GO Transit’s Barrie line as part of the GO Expansion Program.

Due to track work near Bradford GO Station this weekend, Saturday, July 6 and Sunday, July 7, GO Transit trains must move more slowly in that area to give the tracks time to settle.

This means a track slow order is in affect Monday, July 8 through to end of service Tuesday, July 9:

  • GO is adjusting the schedules for morning southbound trains to Union Station. They leave Bradford three minutes later than usually.
  • The 1:08 and 9:10 p.m. trains from Allandale Waterfront GO Station start their trips two minutes earlier than usually.
  • The trains that usually start in Aurora GO Station at 11:55 a.m. and 3:04 p.m. start, instead, in Maple GO Station. Buses replace these trains between Aurora and Maple, stopping to pick up passengers near King City GO Station.
  • Some northbound trains from Union start as much as two minutes earlier or later than usually.
  • Trains arrive two minutes later than usually at Aurora GO and continue two minutes later than usually at each station further northward to Allandale.
  • The trains that usually start in Union at 12:54 and 8:59 p.m. end in Maple, instead of Aurora. Buses replace these trains between Maple and Aurora, stopping to drop off passengers in King City.

Metrolinx and GO plan to accommodate more passengers and increase service along the Barrie line, as part of their GO Expansion Program (formerly “regional express rail”).

The TTC is advising passengers that, starting early Saturday, July 6, it’s detouring passengers along this route “due to a crane lift:”

  • 320 Yonge overnight.

^ Note that the map contains an error. Buses along route 97 are not detouring, because the TTC only operates buses along that route in this area Mondays to Fridays during rush hours.

Crane activity on Yonge Street and the resulting TTC detour continue until July 7 (11:59 p.m.).

Since fall 2021, York Region contractors have been rehabilitating a 1.5-kilometre section of the York Durham Sewage System that extends under

  • 16th Avenue (Regional Road 73) between west of Williamson Road to west of Mingay Avenue

in the City of Markham.

16th Avenue Markham sewer rehabilitation.jpg

The project includes:

  • installing a temporary sewage bypass pipe;
  • rehabilitating two access shafts;
  • relining the trunk sewer; and
  • other work.

Starting 9 p.m. Friday, July 5, the Region and City are closing

  • Markham Road (Regional Highway 48), north- and southbound lanes, at 16th Avenue

to accommodate the next phase of the project.

The Region is also restricting traffic lanes on:

  • 16th Avenue, east and west of Markham Road / Main Street North; and
  • Main Street North, south of 16th Avenue.

The TTC is detouring buses along this route, while the street is closed:

  • 102 Markham Rd.

Closing this part of Markham Road to traffic likely requires GO Transit to detour buses along these routes:

  • 70 Uxbridge / Stouffville / Markham; and
  • 71 Uxbridge / Stouffville / Toronto.

However, GO has not announced detour-routing information.

Also, York Region Transit passengers aboard buses along this route can expect delays near Markham Road / Main Street North:

  • 16 16th Avenue.

This phase of construction on Markham Road and 16th Avenue and the resulting GO, TTC and YRT service changes continue until July 8 (5 a.m.).

The TTC is closing Line 1 Yonge - University subway between Sheppard - Yonge and St Clair stations all day Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7. Line 1 trains operate only between Vaughan Metropolitan Centre and St Clair stations and between Finch and Sheppard - Yonge stations those days.

Shuttle buses partially replace subway service. The buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops near each station on the closed section of the line. TTC staff are available in each to station to direct you to the shuttle-bus boarding and offloading locations.

(Or, consider a shuttle-bus alternative.)

St Clair and Sheppard - Yonge are both accessible stations. The TTC is assigning two extra Wheel-Trans vehicles to operate in the area for any passenger needing an accessible ride. If you need an accessible connection at any station without an elevator, speak to any TTC employee for help or directions. All shuttle buses are accessible.

Lawrence Station is closed. All other stations on the closed section of Line 1 remain open so you can buy or pay for fares or connect to Line 4 Sheppard trains and other TTC buses and streetcars or GO Transit buses.

During construction at Lawrence Station, the TTC is closing the station bus terminal. Board buses at temporary stops on Lawrence Avenue West, instead of in the station bus terminal:

  • eastbound at Yonge Street; and
  • westbound at Lorindale Avenue (one block west of Yonge Street)

While this section of Line 1 is closed, TTC crews are maintaining the tracks and improving stations. According to a TTC news release, While the TTC does most subway maintenance at the conclusion of service each night, it continues to require weekend and early weeknight closures to complete critical infrastructure and state-of-good-repair work.”

2024 - 07-06 - Buses replace trains along Barrie line.jpg

Metrolinx and its contractors continue upgrading GO Transit’s Barrie line as part of the GO Expansion Program.

Due to the construction, GO is cancelling train service along the 65 Barrie Saturday, July 6 and Sunday, July 7. GO buses replace the trains, operating to and from Highway 407 Station GO Bus Terminal:

  • GO buses along route 68F drop off or pick up passengers at Allandale Waterfront GO Station, Barrie South GO Station, Barrie Bus Terminal and Highway 407 terminal.
  • GO buses along route 68G serve passengers at Barrie Bus Terminal, Allandale Waterfront, Barrie South, Bradford GO Station, East Gwillimbury GO Station, Newmarket GO Station, Aurora GO Station, King City GO Station, Maple GO Station, Rutherford GO Station and Highway 407 terminal.
  • GO buses along route 68H serve Bradford, East Gwillimbury, Newmarket, Aurora, Wellington Street East / Highway 404 Park and Ride carpool lot and Highway 407 terminal.
  • GO buses along route 65G serve Aurora, King City, Maple, Rutherford and Highway 407 terminal.
  • GO buses along route 65H serve Wellington Street East / Highway 404 Park and Ride, Aurora and Highway 407 terminal.
  • GO buses along route 65J will serve East Gwillimbury, Newmarket, King City, Maple, Rutherford and Highway 407 terminal.

Note that GO bus schedules differ from regular train schedules due to longer travel times.

This weekend, no Barrie-line trains or buses operate to and from Downsview Park GO Station, Union Station or Union Station Bus Terminal. Board TTC subway trains along Line 1 Yonge - University at Highway 407 Station to travel to and from Downsview Park and Union.

Due to this weekend’s construction near Bradford GO Station, GO is also adjusting schedules for trains along the line Monday, July 8 and Tuesday, July 9.

Metrolinx and GO plan to accommodate more passengers and increase service along the Barrie line, as part of their GO Expansion Program (formerly “regional express rail”).

Starting Wednesday, July 3, the City of Toronto is closing

  • Central Park Roadway between Cordova and Islington avenues

to accommodate a project to upgrade the sewers.

The TTC is detouring buses along this route, while the street is closed:

  • 50 Burnhamthorpe.

50_TWSI_July3.gif

^ Note that the map misrepresents the regular path for buses along the 50 Burnhamthorpe route. Eastbound buses usually operate: southeastward along Cordova Avenue; eastward along Central Park Roadway; and then southward along Islington Avenue. Westbound buses usually operate northward along Islington; east- and southward along Central Park; and then west- and northwestward along Cordova. Also: Dundas is a street, not an avenue.

The closure likely also requires MiWay to detour buses along this route:

  • 26 Burnhamthorpe.

However, MiWay has not announced detours.

Construction on Central Park Roadway and the resulting MiWay and TTC detours continue until July 12.
