September 4, 1974

New route established running from Rouge Hill GO station via west on Lawrence, north on East Road, west on Island Road and north on Port Union Road, Sheppard and Meadowvale to the Metro Toronto Zoo. Originally slated to begin on August 14, service on 13 ROUGE HILL was delayed due to a system-wide strike by TTC workers.

Early morning short-turn service provided from Rouge Hill GO station to Island Road, looping through an off-street loop on the north side of Island Road between East Avenue and Port Union/Sheppard. Monday through Friday, 13A runs serve the first three trips out of Rouge Hill GO station in the morning. Saturdays, early morning trips to the Island Road loop are provided by the 54C LAWRENCE EAST bus.

This route operates out of Birchmount Garage.

November 24, 1974

Service extended, evenings only, west on Sheppard to the new off-street loop located at the northeast corner of Littles Road - Morningside Avenue-Sheppard Avenue intersection, providing connections with the 85 SHEPPARD EAST and 34B EGLINTON EAST buses. From the “GO” Station Loop at Lawrence Avenue East, north on East Ave, west on Island Rd, then north and west on Littles Rd, then north and west on Shepard Ave East looping clockwise via north on Littles Rd, east and south through the loop to Sheppard Avenue and return. This extension applies each evening, 7 days per week, throughout the fall, winter and spring. During the longer days of summer, buses operate to the Zoo from approx 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily.

All weekday service including morning rush hour operates west to Morningside.

April 17, 1977 (Date Uncertain)

Weekend service to Metro Zoo runs until almost 9pm. Two later trips between 9 and 10 pm operate between Rouge Hill GO Station and Morningside (13B).

September 6, 1977

Last weekend trip from Zoo leave just before 7pm. Early evening service operates between Morningside and Rouge Hill GO Station.

A pattern is now established whereby weekend Zoo service is extended until about 9pm during the summer months when the Zoo is opened later. This lasts from late April or early May until Labour Day weekend.

October 12, 1980

Coincident with the extension of service on 86 SCARBORO and 85 SHEPPARD EAST, 13 ROUGE HILL buses operate every twenty-five minutes between Rouge Hill GO station and the intersection of Meadowvale and Sheppard, Mondays through Fridays until 9:35 p.m. On weekends, buses continue to run north on Meadowvale to serve the Metro Toronto Zoo, with the last bus leaving the Zoo at 6:48 p.m. After 6:48 p.m. on weekends, buses operate every 25 minutes between Rouge Hill GO station and Meadowvale until 9:43 p.m.

Note that the above black rollsigns appeared in 1986. These flipped the destination arrangements on the 13A and B branches, and eliminated the quotation marks around “GO”.

July 24, 1983

With the opening of Malvern Garage, buses on the 13 ROUGE HILL were transferred from Birchmount.

February 23, 1991

New Saturday morning service on 13 ROUGE HILL ends the early morning operations of the 54C LAWRENCE EAST branch to the Island Road loop. The 13A “Island Road” branch is effectively over at this point.

September 1, 1991

Coincident with the extension of 54 LAWRENCE EAST east to Starspray loop, Saturday morning service now begins at around 6 a.m. for 13 ROUGE HILL

May 9, 1994

Service discontinued (effective the end of operation the day before), replaced on this date by an extension of the 85 SHEPPARD EAST bus operating from Sheppard subway station to Rouge Hill GO station.
